EmpressT, are you going for Generic Full time? If you do, I hope to see you there on July 21st. Although, it will be nice to know who you are on that day come to relieve my anxiety, at least I know someone, so I don't feel lost. And maybe we can work together to get the most in this orientation.

I'm sorry I don't know how different it is for the generic option; however, for accelerated they gave us a list of the options or schedule and it only included the classes that are suggested for the first semester. I mean yes, you create your own schedule, but theres not much flexibility aside from choosing which teacher, which room number, or which nursing home and hosptial you want to go to for clinicals. Registration is exactly what you said, you get in line (an EXTREMELY long one) and pray that your choice is still available. After they switch your nursing code from preselect to Nursing, they will then give you the opportunity to go forward with registration. I heard some people say they registered in the computer lab, so you can try that!

Well, I have some big news for one lucky Full-Time Generic hopeful, and other news as well.

Upon, reading and taking with several current RN students, I have decided to defer my Full-Time Generic seat until January 09 Spring semester. I had been considering it for a while, and yesterday I made it official. So, as of now I am the 1st in line for the Spring 09 and I don't have to re-apply. Somebody, should be getting some favorable news, and I just wanted to tell that person: Congrats!

On other news, in the Spring the Baptist Scholars program will be back. However, the Jackson Scholars is still in the air until the end of the Fiscal year, which I understand is in September. At that point MDC and Jackson will make a decision on the future of the program.

Also, in case anyone wonders why I deferred. I want to finish take my Microbiology b4 NS. Further, I have almost all the Nursing books and have started studying already. I hear from too many former "A" students that nursing students are happy to a "C" or as they say C=continue or C=RN.

Well, I still have a delusion that I will ace nursing school. And, that is why I have started studying 5 months in advance subjects like Pharm, Physical Examinations, Fundamentals of Nursing, Nursing Math, Pathology, fluids & electrolytes, medical terminology, critical thinking and last but not least A&P. Also, I may be pioneering the Nursing Honor Society which is currently not available at MDC. I will take this semester to get the ball rolling and hopefully debut it the Spring.

Thanx so much. I'm moved by your comments and extremely flattered. Believe me, I wanted to be there with you guys in the Fall 09 as well.

As for rostata and others that are in, please, stop by as the semester goes on and let us know how things are going. I will be living vicariously through you guys until I get there in the Spring.

Also, on another note for those who received that dreaded rejection letter. Remember those budget cuts which lowered the amount of entering students from 160 last Fall to 98 this Fall? Those were mainly because the Jackson and Baptist had been removed temporarily. Keep in mind that a lot more students will be accepted in Spring 09, because of the Baptist Scholars program. That itself should bring the cutoff gpa down several points. And, if Jackson Scholars kicks in that even more as well. Stay hopeful and re-apply. From what I hear the cutoff gpa at Broward College is super low, and they have a great program with great NCLEX passing %.

I just wanted to make a point that nursing school is NOT about the grade you get, but about the material you learn and your patients. In nursing school grades do not mean anything, as long as you pass. The most important part is understand the material and being able to apply it as a nurse. a D is 76 and a 77 is a low low lowww C. So a C is your former B and not to mention that the exams are in critical thinking format where more then one question might be right. Therefore you can master the concepts, but you need to know how to apply it as well. So yes C means continue and students learn that what matters is the nursing skills you are learning and applying and not the grade or percentage you are receiving, that really does matter.

Hi. I've been lurking on here for months and this is my first post on this thread. First let me just say thank you to everyone for sharing your information, it's been very helpful.

I applied to the accelerated option with a 3.7 but STILL have not received any kind of letter. No acceptance, no rejection...nothing. I realize that a 3.7 doesn't seem to be good enough this year (not to mention the fact that orientation has already happened) and I'm completely fine with not getting into MDC since I did get into my first choice nursing school. The thing is, the other program is in another state (where I've lived before) and requires moving. I'm getting ready to head back but would love to know FOR SURE before I leave. It seems pretty inconsiderate of MDC to keep people waiting so long to find out about a program that starts so soon. Doesn't leave much wiggle room if you've got other things going on in your life.

So, has anyone who applied to the accelerated option gotten a rejection letter yet??
