Anatomy & Physiology 1!!!

How are the lectures and the labs? Do you guys have to read 1 book for each class? Or is it 1 book for both classes?

We had both a lecture book and a lab book. The lecture book could be used to study for lab too.

Was the lab portion hard?

The lab of my a&p class so far we did a Dialysis and osmosis lab, a theory of osmosis and osmotic pressure lab and an osmotic blood cell experiment.

As I'm flipping through my lab book it looks like lab will mostly be a visual aid to lecture.

Lab can be hard durring the bone and muscle chapters. Just make sure you get to realy look at the bone and muscle figures. I suggest getting an anatomy atlas. The lab is mainly all about anatomy while the lecture covers physiology.

When I took A&P 1 I had a book for lecture and a book for lab. Lecture for me was easier because I do better at big-picture type stuff, whereas lab was harder because it focuses on the details of anatomy (memorization, argh). Be prepared to memorize placement of muscles, bones, veins, arteries (though I think veins and arteries are in A&P 2), and nerves. Hopefully your lab has a few good models. I mainly studied from those because I needed the "real life" look to help me to memorize. Lecture and lab material usually coincide (as in, you might learn about the skeletal system in lecture and lab in the same week) which helps with studying. I had to do a lab report over the entire semester, which was a bit tedious, but not terrible. I actually really miss A&P!

The fact that you miss A&P gives me a sense of relief! Haha! :-D i need to find some memory pills now to absorb everything! Kidding! I pray I have a great teacher!

I go to the same school as Chelsea13 but am in A & P 2. Our lecture and lab are integrated. We only had a couple hands on labs in A & P 1, but so far in A & P 2 we have had more of them. I really like A & P. My biggest recommendation is to find the best teacher. I always tell people don't find the easiest (because you won't learn a thing), but find one who is good at explaining and allows you to ask questions without making you feel stupid. That is such an important factor.

normally you'll have a text book for lecture (the physiology part) then you'll have a work book (the anatomy part) for the lab. As far as the class itself goes, LOTS OF ENERGY DRINKS and STUDY GROUPS lol

True! I had a choice between a professor who was hard to understand and a professor who was terribly difficult and despised ;) (based on ratemyprofessor.com). I chose the hard, hated one, and did well, while many students I talked to from the other professor's class had a terrible time and made poor grades. But then, sometimes you don't have choice, and you just have to suck it up and rock the class anyway. :)

Oh goodness lmao! I'm taking Developmental Psych this semester and ratemyprofessor said my teacher is sour ! I refuse to let that intimidate me!

People say the strangest things about professors on there. Really, I don't think anyone knows what the hotness rating is about, because some of my professors are rated as hot and they are most definitely not. (And I don't event want to think about people who pick their professors based on that.)

Sorry...back to A&P discussion!
