Am I overdoing it with applying to too many programs?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I am currently in the process of applying to 3 ADN programs and 5 BSN programs (4 public schools and 1 non-profit, private school) for fall 2011. Am I crazy or is this just the new normal in terms of getting into nursing school in California?

Out of these, hopefully you will get at least one acceptance. Your strategy is a good one.

I dunno. I spoke with the admin dept of our local community college "group" and found out it was unlikely I'd get to the second step based on the fact that my pre-requs were still in progress. Then I talked to a friend who is a nurse and went back to school in her thirties (like me) and asked her about job prospects in this ridiculously tough economic market, and she rec getting a degree from one of two private universities in the area if I didn't want to spend a few years + working an a setting I didn't want to work in. It, of course, all depends on what is important/critical to you. Consider the possible outcomes of each choice. What kind if education will you get? What are your career goals? How much debt capacity do you have? How old are you? It used to be that an ASN and a BSN were equally employable, but not anymore. I think a lot of people apply "everywhere" but I'm not sure if getting accepted "anywhere" fit my goals and aspirations.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I live inPortland, Or, where getting into nursing school is akin to winning the ******* lottery.
