Advice on taking pre-reqs at MCC

I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on taking some classes. I have a bachelors degree, but I am planning on going back to get my nursing degree. So... I have to get some pre-reqs out of the way so I can apply. I am currently signed up for A and P, Intro to Bio, Intro to Ethics, and Microbiology starting in Jan. I am considering dropping the Micro and taking it in the summer so I can focus on A and P. I am planning on applying to programs next year and have some time to spread it out a bit. I've already taken intro to bio, but, the one I took is not going to transfer.

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice about getting them all done at once or spreading it out. I am trying to figure out if 17 credits would be too much (I haven't been in school for almost 3 years) and if I am being to ambitious thinking I could do 17.

Seventeen credits is a pretty heavy load. Full-time is generally considered to be between around 16 credits, so you'd be at more than full-time and with a very science-heavy courseload. I think your idea of putting off microbiology until the summer may be a good one. Your original idea isn't totally outrageous or unheard of, but if you have any doubts, I'd probably go with plan B. Good luck.

I think that sounds like a pretty heavy load. I go to MCC and am currently in pathogenic micro. Are you trying to get into Macomb's nursing program?

The main thing to consider is that if you are applying to a school who either solely or heavily looks at your GPA for acceptance I would be VERY cautious in taking such a full load. A P is not necessarily hard it is just A LOT of information and if you have no medical background you are going to be hearing possibly hundreds of new words every day or two so it is the amount of information that overwhelms people. I am not saying this cannot be done, I just personally would not risk my GPA just to get done a semester quicker. It could make the difference of getting vs not getting accepted into the nursing program you apply to.

Thanks for the advice. I think I am going to drop the microbiology for now. I am planning on applying to Oakland University accelerated program next year and they do look at the gpa's of the pre-reqs. I'm going to apply to Macomb next year as well. I'm hoping to do Oaklands because I could get a bachelors instead of an associate degree. I keep flip-flopping about taking the added class, but, it probably is a good idea just to focus on gpa.
