Admissions competition gets us wound up tight!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Took my first Stats test this week. I just went online to see my score. The first 20 questions were multiple choice and automatically graded by Pearson (50% of the grade), the last four questions were multi-part questions that were required to be written with supporting work then scanned and uploaded to the teacher (50% of the grade). So when I went online to see my score, it showed I made a 50% on the test. Shut the front door. I don't think I've ever been so close to passing out in my life. Turns out Pearson counts the 4 written questions as wrong because no answer was given and the teacher has to manually enter the points for the four critical thinking questions. I actually got a 96.8%. I am still shaking from my three minutes of failure shock.

Yikes. Deep breaths, it's only school!

Oh, my gosh! Wonderful job on your test. I'm watching a statistics class on YouTube age working through the textbook at home because I'm dreading stats so much. I don't even need to take it until after nursing school, but I have some time to work on it now, so I figured I should. Keep up the great work!

Ug I hated Stats, I still managed an A but by the skin of my teeth. I did so well in Algebra I thought it would be a breeze. Good job on getting that A!

Tell me about it. Thankfully the CC doesn't require math higher than algebra. The average GPA is a 3.0 (Usually 3.5 or higher) overall GPA, 4.0 in pre req science GPAs, and 80 (preferabbly 85) or higher on the TEAS. You are able to apply to 3 programs in the CC network, but you have a 20% chance of being accepted and 80% chance of being waitlisted :-(

Haha, touche! I didn't even realize how wound up I was getting over future admissions opportunities until I practically had a coronary over a perceived F on a test.

Stats was the most frustrating class I have ever taken. So many steps to memorize. I still don't know how I made an A. Good job on your test!

I'm in stats at the moment and I'm glad all of our exams are on paper because that would give me a heart attack even thinking of the possibility of getting a 50%. Congratulations on your 96.8%. I hope the rest are as good as this one was.

YIKES! That instructor should have provided a warning to everyone about the time lag for grading. But maybe s/he didn't anticipate any "eager beavers" jumping in so early to get their results.

She probably doesn't fully appreciate how neurotic pre-nursing students are with that constant 10% admissions rate ominously hanging over their heads like Armageddon or something, haha! I'm sure I just need to loosen up. If I had looked on Blackboard first I'd have seen the A.

I like her, though. She encourages interesting discussions related to statistics in the class forum, things you don't generally think to apply it to and it shows how much stats really is a big part of our knowledge base in science!
