A&P in the summer

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi Everyone!

Ok, I plan on taking A&p1 this coming symmer; is a 5 weeks class of every single day, Monday- friday. For those of you who've taking this class, do you all think is a good idea to do this in a very short period of time? I know the class requires a lot of memorization; can the info be grasp in such a time frame? Thanks good people for your input! :-)

Good day:

With that many days per week, it should be doable as long as you stay on schedule for reading, studying, lab work. I cannot speak for your college, but our college for summer courses sometimes (I believe it varies from professor to professor) will take out 5 to 25% of the regular semester material so the remaining material that is covered and tested is more manageable.

Thank you.

I took A&P II over the summer in a 5 week course 8a-12p Monday through Friday. It was the most difficult class I have ever taken and would not recommend it to anyone that does not have the motivation and time to study several hours a day. That class was my life for those 5 weeks. I did get an A but I never before worked so hard to earn one.

Wow, I am shocked they're allowed to remove that much material and still give credit for the class. I took A&P 2 in the summer, and it covered the same amount of material as a full semester in 1/4 the time. It is definitely not for the faint of heart, and a lot of people in my course underestimated the work required and did not pass. If you have to work, take other classes along with it, or have a lot of family obligations, you may want to wait for the regular semester. That being said, it is completely doable. Just be prepared to work your tail off to learn everything you need to know. If you didn't cover the endocrine system in A&P I, it's good to study that ahead of time. We had maybe three days to learn everything there was to know about 20 some hormones and I had wished I studied ahead for that.

Our school offers an A&P summer class. Mind you, this class is NOT the required pre-req for our nursing program, but is an awesome warm up for the required anatomy and physiology (separate classes at my school). That being said, I took it over summer and it was a VERY grueling and intense 6 weeks. I studied everyday. I had to also clock 12+ hours per week in the lab. I have 2 kids, and managed to make it work by taking breaks from studying for my sanity.

I am now in my required Anatomy course, and SO grateful I took the warm-up over summer! Good luck to you. If you are able to be truly dedicated (hard work), go for it. Also, if this class is the actual required course for you program, take it over a semester as opposed to rushing through summer.

A friend of mine took the 5 week long course and she said it was brutal. She made it out with a B. I took the regular 10 week summer course (community college) and I found myself studying at least 3 days at week for just the one class. I ended up getting an A. A&P is definitely not a class you want to rush through

Yes, I've been told so too. I guess my college does the same thing. Thanks too!

Actually, my school offers A&p, the one that's transferable to a 4yrs uni, and the one that's NOT transferable. Now, my School ADN program requires that, which is not transferable; but if one happens to get both, that will be accepted. Basically, I plan on taking both of them, but I want to take the main A&p during regular semester. I plan to apply by spring of 2015 though. ...

I didn't mean to scare you! Sorry :p if you put your mind to it, I'm sure you can do great! It's definitely possible! Just not preferable. I'm sure you'll do great and that is a great choice in your situation! I wish you luck!!

I took A&P II in a 6 week summer session and I wish I'd taken "A&P I" like that! I did really well because I was so focused on not getting behind :)
