A&P 1 Fall 2013

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Tomorrow is the first day of school and I am taking A&P 1 this semester. I was all excited and ready to go before but now I am flooded with anxiety. I have already tried to prepare myself by reading ahead but I also want to start a support thread for those taking this class as well or hear from others who have already taken the class (that always helps).

Wishing everyone much success this semester!

I'm also starting tomorrow, and I'm terrified. Even with reading 2 chapters ahead(and not planning to get behind); I'm still scared. I was confident at one point.. Now, I'm just praying I don't cry. lol. I head my instructor is pretty amazing though, and I avoided the one who is a nightmare apparently. She also sent us powerpoints of pertinent info for the chapters(I love those instructors)! So I'm OK. Still scared.. xD

I have read a lot of great and useful tips and a lot ofwhich hit home for me. I am the type of student that doesn’t know when to takea break when studying. When I get frustrated from not understanding somethinginstead of walking away and coming back to it I frustrate myself even more bybeating myself up for not understanding the material. I really do appreciateeveryone’s feedback and response and I want to thank everyone for the wellwishes and support. I will definitely be reporting back with updates throughthe semester and encourage others to do the same. [/quote']

I think it was a great idea to start a support thread :) I started my anatomy class yesterday (unfortunately a Saturday class...) and had the lab yesterday as well. I definitely felt so much more anxiety leading up to it but after getting through the first lecture it doesn't seem so bad. However, there is so much to memorize and comprehend already. So far, for the lab class we have to memorize the bones of the skull and anatomical terminology to prepare for our quiz in 2 weeks. For the lecture class we have to memorize the different quadrants and regions of the body, an overview of the organ systems, and anatomical landmarks. It seemed overwhelming at first, but once I really got into the reading and making flashcards I felt so much better :) I'm still very nervous about my first day of physiology class on Tuesday though ... Best wishes to everyone and I hope we all continuously update on our progress in class! :)

I did this 200-question review on chapter one last night. I was amazed at how I kept mistaking posterior to anterior. I can't seem to understand lateral, medial, and one other anatomical position that I can't remember at the moment.

Visceral and parietal, serous membrane, etc. also were a bit confusing, though I'm gradually understanding them.

I struggled greatly over the terms that covered areas of the body, such as the point of the shoulder being acromial (I can't believe I remember this stuff now, omg), and the elbow being the cubital.

I have a loooooot of studying to do on chapter one. Chapter two and its biochemistry will either make or break me.

My A&P 1 class starts tomorrow! Lab is at 8:00am! Very excited, but also very, very nervous! Good luck with A&P everyone!

Whovian - I was also having a hard time remembering the anatomical positions, but it helped me to point to those positions on myself as I learned them (for example, I point to my front for anterior, and I point to my back for posterior) It also helped me to remember that medial is towards the middle (or midline of the body), and lateral is away from the middle. Hope this helps!

It does!

A&P wasn't bad at all today. First I had lab, and we built structural formulas like amino acids, saturated/unsaturated fatty acids and such using this kit. It was a lot easier than I thought, but having to build them from a 2D to 3D perspective was kind of hard. Especially since we had to deal with x, y, and z axis instead of just the x and y axis.

The lecture wasn't bad at all, either. The professor just went over chapter one material and gave us a brief run-down of all the other systems and various topics we'd be covering throughout the year.

Science has never been a real strong-point of mine, but as long as you pay attention and study; A&P's both a blast and do-able.

I started AP1 one today! The whole first class was about how to study and how to understand the material as a student. Our professor said that if we thought this class was about memorization, we are wrong. Understanding is key. She is also giving her own workshop on the side that teaches you how to "study smart, not hard." This is her motto. Find out which kind of learner you are. Be your own study buddy by explaining terms and concepts to yourself, as if you were teaching it to someone else. And most importantly...Don't fall behind!

Good luck ALL!!

Oh and look up MR. FORDS ANATOMY! He has instructional videos that are awesome!!!!

I wish my prof did that! We jumped right in and have moved very quickly! So far, I do not care for anatomy. We have covered planes, and positions, cell structure, and tissues. In the lab portion so far we have just been using the microscope to look at the different phases of mitosis and different tissue and cell structures. Give me chemistry any day over this!!!

I start next wen! Its been along time since I took a&p! What do we learn in a&p1? Good luck everyone!!

I started A&P I yesterday night and I must admit that I feel so overwhelmed! So much information to retain!

This is the ONE class I've been looking forward too and it's been extremely difficult. My instructor is so unprepared that we haven't even done our first two labs.. 80% of the class can't get online to do their mastery work because they dont have the codes to get on, all she does is read the powerpoints (that we can download on line anyway) and then calls it a day, sometimes an hour early! I need to get an A but I'm terrified that something's not going to go right. I've taken to instructing myself, and doing practice quizes and grading acording to the 100-93=A 92-83=B etc. that way I'll be prepared and get my A one way or another!!

How's everyone doing?

So far, I LOVE my class. I hate the chemistry review, but am loving the rest of it. My instructor is understanding, detailed, does power point presentations on pertinent(test wise) information, and is really helpful! :)
