The LAST 2 posts were what makes looking on this site worth while.

The psychological games of "look at me and my grades (from who knows where school)" and "I am so pitiful" are pretty much a waste of time (and what fills up most posts).

Thanks guys (in last 2 posts) for help making this site more educational!!

There is something to be said for a sense of camaraderie and encouragement of others. I am sorry it seems worthless or threatening to you but it really is perfectly fine for people to share their grades AND to get help here. The students really bond together in nursing school and have to work together. Cheering one another on does nothing but fuel the energy that makes learning possible. Your post above, I note, does not contain anything helpful to anyone, either by cheering them on or posting academic resources for learning. How are your classes going? Anything we can do to help you? Anything happen this week you are proud of that you'd enjoy sharing?

gentlywind - nice going on that test!!!! i wish i could say the same...not doing as well as i hoped...but i will keep on trying...we have a lab exam next thursday, 150 bones to know...i'm okay with the bones, where i have difficulty is the depressions, processes etc...i think in hindsight (as i have been out of school a number of years) that a summer condensed course was not for me...ahhh..but we live and learn...do you have any recommendations for memorizing the fossa's/depressions? if so thanks!!

I am taking AP now in the Fall 08. I decided not to go to summer classes because I needed a break, but I have been studying AP from some web sites to have a heads up in class. any advise about this class in regards to the material and is a tape recorder advisable?

I recorded every lecture and listened to it at least once afterward, and it was a huge help. I could concentrate more on what the teacher was lecturing on since I wasn't having to write every single word down. I was able to get more of the "big picture".

I used a tape recorder as well. It really helped out.

Hey guys I'm taking A&P I right now for Fall '08. I'm so nervous! I need to get a tape recorder and flash cards asap. This is probably a stupid question but did you guys read all of the assigned reading? I'm so scared about that. I looked at it and it seems like it is a foreign language.

Yep. And you can start making some flashcards with all those big, bold words. Relax and take it one chapter at a time. As long as you stay on top of things, it will all come together for you, you'll see.

Don't waste your money on a tape recorder, get a digital voice recorder. Microcassettes have to be flipped over, which can disrupt the class, and you can only record a short amount at a time before it fills up. Go to Best Buy or Office Max (or similar) and buy one of these new tape-less wonders. I bought a Sony IC Recorder, it records up to 260 hours continuously with NO TAPE, and it's totally silent, so the instructor won't frown at you for unnecessary noise.

As a bonus, I can hook it up to my laptop and upload all of my lectures right to the hard drive and save them as voice files. It comes with voice editor software, so I can edit out the sidebar conversations (and keep only the pertinent lecture material) and even burn them to a CD or IPOD/MP3 if I want. Also, if I had the right version of the voice recognition software, it would even automatically transcribe the lecture recordings into written notes! This thing is AMAZING!!! I can record an entire quarter's worth of lectures before the thing fills up.

I plan on using this little gizmo a LOT.

I also purchased a digital recorder, and it has really helped out. I hook it up to my PC and go over my notes for the day while listening to the lecture to make sure I did not miss any important information. My note taking is still in progress. It also helps by not interrupting class, just to ask for info to be repeated. I highly recommend a digital recorder.
