I have a tissues question. What divides connective tissue into two categories? It's the presence or absence of something.

    Hi,

How is the Anatomy class at Rio Salado ? Any particular teachers you recommend ? I've been thinking of enrolling there but haven't heard good things. I may enroll at Edukan instead.

I just had my midterm with Rio for A&P 1. The materials with the program are great. You get a lot of online support but I not a whole lot of professor support. I really wish there was a lecture portion or a hybrid version of the class to take instead. It is all what you make of it tho I guess. I am going to do all my pre-req's and co-req's through RIO.

I didn't know there were just two categories (we've learned them as loose areolar ct, adipose ct, dense irregular ct, etc.)...the only thing I can think of is if you're talking about ct proper vs. other types, but I'm pretty sure ct proper is another name for the loose areolar ct...can you give us some clarification?

yes, the two categories are connective tissue proper and specialized connective tissue. i'm taking a&p online and i'm doing a tissues lab report. i have to fill out the lab report and this is the question " on the basis of the presence or absence of () connective tissues may be divided into two groups." i can't find anything in my book that would fill in that blank. i was thinking maybe it's something that is found in ct proper that isn't found in cartilage, bone, and blood, but i can't figure out what it would be. are there fibroblasts in cartilage, bone, and blood? thanks so much for trying to help me.:d

i think you're right, it should be fibroblasts. in cartilage it's the chondroblasts that secrete the matrix materials, which in turn ossify (sp?) and form bone during endochondral ossification. in blood the matrix is the plasma and i don't think it has any fibers. we never really learned the differentiation b/t proper vs. other ct, just that the types of ct proper were so different from blood/bone/cartilage that they were given their own category. sorry i don't know more, hope that helps a little!

Thank you! The test wasn't too bad, there was only 1 question of 100 that I honestly didn't know. I checked the notes after the test and I guessed right so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that A!
