Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm almost 32 and just about finished my first quarter back. I will have 9 more pre reqs to take before I can apply for the program. I would love to chat with others and cheer each other on along the way. OH, and does anyone else think English 101 is kinda hard?! And why the hell does it have to be one of the 4 classes that count at my school? I'm going crazy!

Hello to all!! I am 39 I started this journey at 38. I have taken all but three pre-reqs and I have applied to my nursing program. I am taking the Hesi A2 on the 23rd of this month once accepted I start on Sept 2nd. I have 4 children their ages are 20, 16, 15 and 10!!! They are all supportive of my dream of becoming a nurse. Here's to us.... We can do this after all we have birth to children right??!! Lol!

Are you guys planning to do an ADN or BSN program? I am planning to do an ADN program, and eventually do an RN-BSN bridge program.

^ same here

I'm "planning" the same. The program I was accepted into is at a community college here in Northern California. So I'm at least completing an ADN, with the intent of entering a bridge program for a BSN.

I like this idea! I'm 36 and am finishing up my prerequisites as well. I still need Chemistry Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, and Developmental Psych. I am hoping to take Chemistry and Anatomy this Summer and the rest in the Fall so that I can apply Spring of 2014 as well. I am married with four kids (ages 14, 9, 7, 4). I currently work as a teaching assistant, but have decided to focus on school full time since my youngest daughter will be starting school this year. Where are you guys located? I live in California.[/quote']

Hi pamlepper,

I am in California too, near Sacramento. I have 2 daughters, almost 7 y/o and 3 y/o. I been very fortunate to not "have" to work during schooling. We definitely have to focus our finances but I couldn't imagine work, school and mommy responsibilities! You're amazing!

Thanks :)! I'm in Southern California, in Victorville (the desert)! I live about an hour and a half from Orange County.

Same here. I thought about going the BSN route, but I believe that the ADN route and then RN-BSN bridge later is better for my situation.

I'm 34 and have been married to my college sweetheart for just under 15 years! We have two kids, ages 10 and 6. I never finished my degree the first time around. I have an awful GPA that reflects my lack of discipline back then. Since returning to school in 2011, my GPA at the university I'm attending is 3.65! Too bad that old GPA is dragging my cumulative down to 3.0. I'm having to bust my tail to make up for it, but I'm so very thankful that I went back. I've completed my pre-reqs & applied to the local ADN program. We find out in June if we have been accepted or not. It's based on a points system, and I rocked the Hesi entrance exam, so maybe I'll have a chance. If I don't get in, I'm continuing on with pre-reqs so I will be ready to apply for both the ADN and BSN programs next year. I'm glad to see this thread! I've had a few 30 somethings in classes at school, but it'll be awesome to follow our stories as we make our way through nursing school.

Specializes in Endocrinology, hopefully.

I'm 35 ;) Just finished my pre-reqs and applying to start this fall for nursing school (ADN) and will immediately do an online bridge program before I start my NP program!

Hi Everyone,

I'm a 33yr old single mom and caregiver to my disabled mom. I have been teaching elementary & middle school for the last 8 years. I started teaching because after graduating in 1998 with my BA in Gerontology and completing all of my nursing pre-reqs I was unable to get into a nursing program due to a low GPA. Upon graduating I was 23 yrs old, no responsibilities and I was so head strong on getting my BSN (or even an ADN) that I didn't even think to consider an LPN program.

Now 8 years later, I 've come to the drastic conclusion that althought I enjoy teaching... its not my passion. I've reflected on the time that I wasted pouting over not getting into a major BSN programs.

I have a few options ahead of me now since I plan to take some time off from teaching (hopefully indefinitely if I get into nursing school). My options are to apply to LPN school then do a bridge program OR retake a few of the pre-reqs that I earned C's (A&P 1, A&P2, Micro, and 1 more that I can't remember right now) in way back when and to improve my pre-req GPA then apply to BSN (or ADN) programs.

Nonetheless, I need all of the TLC I can get from others that share the same dream and aspirations as I do. Lord knows that this will be a major career change for me and something that not everyone in my family supports.

Love and Sunshine to the FL people on this thread.
