The application process hasn't even started yet but I didn't even find out about last year's scholarship until a couple days before the deadline. I did get my application in on time but was not fortunate enough to be a recipient. I intend to apply again for the upcoming scholarship. Any tips from those that were accepted? My EFC is 0, I'm in an undergraduate program, and my GPA is 3.4.

Hello Everyone,

I am also interested in applying for this scholarship! I am starting a 16 month accelerated BSN program tomorrow :). I do realize if I get the scholarship it will only cover for next summer and on, so I will have to pull out loans for the Fall and Spring. I also have a 0 efc and a 3.2gpa. This scholarship will be a true blessing and would help me out tremendously :). Well I will keep a look out for the application. Good Luck to everyone! :)

I will definitely be applying for this scholarship. Efc is 0 and my GPA is a 3.78

They ask for your GPA on the application but I don't think it plays much of a role in selection.

I don't think it plays a major role either considering all the other things they ask for, but I'm sure it doesn't hurt to have a good gpa.

Hi everyone:

I got the scholarship this past August...Let me know about any questions you have.

GPA: 3.9, 2.5 years of HIV education and prevention volunteer work, etc.

I definitely think they look at GPA...if they didn't, they wouldn't ask. They also, of course, look at one academic and one non-academic reference letter, and three essay questions. If you don't have volunteer work serving the underserved, get some ASAP. Groups I would consider would be any group that is historically underserved: gay and lesbian, African American, Latino, etc. as you will, once you are done with school, be serving in underserved communities where there is a nursing shortage to fulfill your scholarship obligations.

When you write your essay, be sure to mention your commitment to serving the underserved, play up all of your accomplishments in school, extra-curricular activities, etc. You should also ask anyone who writes your reference letters to do the same.

They definitely take ADN students.

Be sure to get your non-academic and academic reference letters (one of each) started now!

Do you think they look into how long you have volunteered for?

I'm not sure if they do or not, to be honest, but it would make a degree of sense if they do. I think, more than anything, they just want to see that you are committed to serving the underserved... Any volunteer experience demonstrating that is going to look better than not having any at all.
