I started last week, on Wednesday the 4th. My prof. is nice but she is Russian, therefore EXTREMELY hard to understand, but she promises within 2 weeks we'll all understand her no problem! We'll see...lol. I do like her and I like the way she says things like... Know this, highlight it, circle it, it will be on the test! Love that. She pronounces things very funny sometimes for instance today every time she said the word galactose, it came out as garlic-toast. It was all I could do not to laugh.

I wish mine would tell us what's on the test.

Just had my first class in A & P this morning. Perhaps it was the sinus infection I'm still fighting or the fact that this was the first morning I got up early in several weeks, but I just felt like I was in a fog. And we are starting off with Origins, Insertions, and Actions. Dear Lord help me!
I think I need a little skeleton of my own or an online virtual one. I don't see how I'm going to learn this stuff if I only get a few hours a week in the lab to actually handle one.

I also had my first class this morning. Nothing scary yet, lol. My instructor seems like she is going to be very nice, great personality as far as I can tell.
We will have 4 test that will make up 1/3 of our grade, Lab will be 1/3 of our grade, and our final exam will be 1/3 of our grade. Our lowest test grade gets dropped, and we will have the chance to earn some extra credit points by donating blood, being an organ donor etc... heck they don't want essays any more, they want our organs I have my first lecture AND lab on Wednesday.

From what I understand I have the toughest instructor at my college, I hear that she really makes you learn everything and then some. I suppose thats a good thing though. I will have the foundation that I need for nursing. I plan to get an A in this class!

Well, we wont be missing our organs if we are dead. I think I could handle that, and I think I would even give blood to get a good grade. I know I want this pretty bad if I will give blood. I have always dodged that. :chuckle I hope I dont sound like a bad person, I just hate to be stuck.

My class is the same grading scale except no extra credits points. My toughest day is Friday because I have a 3 hour lab from 8-11, 12-1 communications(boring instuctor), 1-2 anatomy lecture.

I had my first class yesterday and the lecture was great, but am a bit worried about the lab. I had such a hard time operating the microscope...I have not used one since I was like 7. I wish we could skip those and go straight to dissecting.

Okay everyone...i just walked in the door and I came straight to the computer to tell you about my absolutely AWESOME/AMAZAING/WONDERFUL proffessor. He's from Puerto Rico, an older gentleman...loves the computer and is the director of the Biology Study Lab. He reminds me of Speedy Gonzales from the cartoons...he's very animated and very comical...he wants us to learn and have fun and not be so stressed that we hate his class. He is lecture based, dry lab, and wet lab....dry lab is just to the bio study lab and working on the computer....like I said earlier he loves computers therefore makes programs for us to learn with...pretty neat...we already experience one today...not bad at all....
His grading system is probably one of the best I've every seen...it is as follows :
    4 tests
    1 final
    3 lab tests
    12 quizzes.
there will be essays on all tests which are all extra credit...if you make a 85 on the test and answer 2 essays that are worth 5 each your test grad is now a 95. if the average of the 12 quizzes is better than one of your tests, then your quiz average replaces that test. if on the final you make between a 80-89 he will drop the lowest test grade out of the 4, if you make a 90-100 on the final he will drop your 2 lowest test grades. if you have a 89 as your final grade and only have missed no more than 2 classes and you have participated in clas and have not been tardy, he will give you the A.
the other way to get 10 points extra credit is to donate plasma, or volunteer for 6 hours at a local kids/teenage study place that we have here...
I wan really impressed with him....although he talks fast and w/ a little bit of an accent...i do have the upper hand beings my husband is from Mexico and has the same tendencies to talk fast and w/ a very small accent...so needless to say love the guy.

My other profs seemed really awesome as well.....

Here's to a great start in the new semester.....hope everyone elses day was good....

Congrats!! That is fabulous. We have no extra credits and we are on a 6 point scale. 100-94 = A, 93-86 = B, 85-78=, 77-70=D, 69-0=F, and no extra credits. Boy am I "Greens with envy".

I start my class next week. I'm a bit nervous about how much bio/chem I should already know for this. It's been almost 12 years since I graduated high school and I only took physics in college. I'm reviewing some books (Chem for Dummies, etc.). Any other suggestions?

I went with Torres, a spot in his class came open and I jumped on it. He's the director of the Biology learning lab....hilarious guy

Hard????? he pretty much gives you what you need to know...there was a girl in there who had him last semester who had to drop b/c of family problems and said he was amazing...i heard bad things about my previous...that he jumped around a lot, doesn't provide notes, doesn't really lecuture out of the book ect....after the first day i'm really pleased w/ this guy....a friend of mine is in fardel's, so i'll wait and see what she says....and I'll keep you updated
