Vanderbilt Grad Entry 2013

Hey everyone!

This thread is for all of those out there who are planning on applying to one of Vanderbilt's MSN programs for Fall 2013. I'm starting to get my application packet together. I haven't started my interview survey questions and goal statement yet but I need to get on it. I need to take the GRE still though. Has anyone taken that? What did you get? Did you study? Harder than you thought?

Let's help each other get into their program!

Does anyone know if I can apply on 9/15 when the application comes out but submit the GRE scores later? Or do I have to wait until after taking the GRE?

Yes. You can start and/or finish and submit your application without having submitted your GRE score. Same goes for the transcripts. Each just needs to be submitted prior to the priority deadline for first consideration.

So this thread has been so quiet lately! Has everyone applied yet? I have everything ready to submit but I'm afraid to do it before knowing how I do on the GRE. I guess there is no point in applying if I get a horrible score.

I've got everything ready to submit. No hurry though. I want to keep revising my interview survey questions.

We still have 2 months until the priority deadline. You don't get a special tuition discount if you submit before then. Relax, no hurry.

For the G.E.D. equivalency question: if you graduated from high school and a 4-year university, should you just leave the G.E.D. equivalency Yes/No question blank?

I went to the open house this weekend and I loved it! Sounds like a really great program, however, I decided to wait another year to apply. That way my youngest will be in Kindergarten when I start the program and would be easier on my husband while I'm away (assuming I get accepted). Anyway, just wanted to wish you all good luck and I hope you all get accepted :)

Officially sent my application. It said early March we should know if we get in. I've heard others have known even in February.

Let's do this!

I have resubmitted my updated application a couple of weeks ago!

Good Luck everyone!

Hello. I finished submitting my application last week. My GRE scores were not as high as I would have liked (154, 147 and 3.0) but my GPA is almost 3.7 and I graduate with my BSN in 6 weeks. I am an RN who has been practicing for almost a year. I am trying hard not to get anxious. I was encouraged that the program info stated they will look at applicants as a whole. If God wants me in this program, I believe that will happen. I have 2 friends that graduated from Vanderbilt and cannot say enough good things about this program. I am applying for the 3 semester FNP program. After looking at the last couple years threads for applications, I am sure this will be a very good resource for those of us waiting to find out if we are accepted.

Hey y'all!

My name is Amanda and I am a pre-specialty student in Vanderbilt's MSN program. I will be entering into the nurse midwifery specialty, and I couldn't be more excited! I wanted to reach out to see if I could be of any help or support :)

I know this application process can be stressful, but it's also very exciting!

School is really busy right now, but as I have free time, I will do my best to check in and see if I can answer any questions!

Good luck to all of you! This is such an exciting time!

I was wondering if you could give me a general idea of what your day to day schedule is. Did you find it to be a difficult transition into the program?

Thanks!

hi616,

The program is very demanding. They are giving you a lot of information to digest and understand in a short period of time. One of the really great things I have noticed is that studying for exams does not feel like a burden or too overwhelming because it is material that I am excited to learn about and implement in the clinical setting. Also, I LOVE Nashville (I'm originally from southern California), which has made the transition that much easier. The faculty is the most supportive group of academic individuals I have ever encountered. They truly want each and every student to succeed, in everything from learning the material, mastering techniques to be used in the hospital, to growing on your individual journey. I know for a fact this is where I'm meant to be, and that has a lot to do with their support, and the camaraderie I feel between myself and my classmates.

I hope this helps!!! :)

Thank you amandy45 for you reply! I also got the private message. That really helps me get an idea of what things are like. I know it will be a lot of work, but that doesn't scare me because as you mention the material is so exciting to learn about. Good luck to you!
