I'm thinking about starting South University. Is there anyone here attending and if so, how do you like the program. How are the classes formatted? Also, has it been difficult for anyone earning an online degee with NP to find a job? Thanks.

Ivy2276, your reply was so helpful im starting the NO program end of June in Columbia! Any advice? I will be new to the area.

I am a current student at South University-Columbia on campus and on line, and I love this college! There are 4 semesters a year. South calls them quarters, but don't let that fool you. They are 10 weeks with 4 plus hours in class per week equaling out to a 14 week semester anywhere else I have attended college before. On line classes are 5 1/2 weeks per course in some, others can be 11 weeks depending on which subject. I personally like campus over on line myself.

South does have NP programs on campus and I hear rumor (nothing put in print for students as of yet) that a NP program might be added here in Columbia. I have my fingers crossed!

You can be finished with a BSN in 7 quarters. Thats 1 year 9 months in the BSN program (if you have completed pre requirements in your undergrad and do not hold a current RN).

The instructors are amazing! I have even worked as a Cert. Medical Assistant for one of the Nurse Practioner's that teach here now. I can't say enough wonderful things about SU (Columbia). Every Professor I have worked with cares that we succeed and will go out of their way to help. This has been great for me and I will continue past my BSN with South University.

I can't speak for the other campus', but Columbia campus is worth a visit if at all possible.

JennabeanRN are you still in the FNP program how do you like it I am thinking of starting this program in the fall but getting a little worried they already changed my admissions counselor 3 times and I just finished BSN with an unorganized school and I don't want that frustration for another two and a half years can you let me know how you like the program and classes and how is the work load do you feel prepared

I found the reps to be pushy as well. I was enrolled in a class before I even made a final decision on whether to attend. That was a red flag to me and I went elsewhere because of it

Yikes! I looked into SU (even started the application) before I realized it was for-profit and decided to apply somewhere else. Hi Pamela.

I appreciated reading your post. I am seriously thinking about going to SU in Jan to work on my RN-BSN. Do you have any further advice to give me? They said they would accept all of the CC credits, nor would I be required to take any further pre-reqs. Only their core nursing classes (which are 12). I do not have a more advance chemistry, or micro. I find this hard to believe I could obtain a BSN without those important sciences? Any thoughts for recommendations to give me? Thank you. Joy

I know this is an old post, but I am considering South University for FNP. Just wondering if you had any advice? South University or Walden?

Hi JodiTRN, were you able to get information on SU FNP program. Pls fill me in.

Hi Owethu123,

I just started at South University in the ADN to MSN/FNP program. It has only been one week so I don't have that much info yet. I decided to go to the campus/online, one day a week on campus the rest online. This is a program in Novi, MI. I did not want to do all online. I was nervous about not having a lab to learn skills in, yet I needed the flexibility of online. The program will require 760 clinical hours and I will find my own sites. It will take 3 years and 3 months to complete. Any other questions?
