Psych NP/grad courses online-Patho, Pharm, Assessment

Hi!!!..I currently live in Texas-not friendly to NPs (prescriptive authority) but hopefully things will change soon. I am in the process of applying to USA BSN-MSN Psych NP program for summer/fall 2013 and I know that they do allow up to 12 credits for transfer. I have a few questions if anyone can help.

1) Is anyone currently enrolled in USA program who can share their experience?

2) Has anyone taken or enrolled in online grad Patho, Pharm, or N. Assessment at any of these schools who can recommend the best school to do these prerequisites?

Liberty University, Weber State, Uni of Neb, UMAss, Uni of Colorado, Indian state, Samuel Merritt.

Thanks!!!......

Hey mtsteelhorse been a little busy...I would like to start a class before then as my program, USA psych NP accepts up to 12 credits and I hope to start in the fall. I am just going to call a bunch of them and definitely speak with someone (because in person information and online is different) and then make my decision. If anyone else can help us please do not hesitate to add your input..much appreciated...TY

Hey!

I am just now applying to USA's psych program. I didn't realize they had one until this week. I am trying to make the Feb 4 deadline but it's doubtful I'll make it. If not will they roll me over into the next deadline? Or maybe I should shoot for fall. I like the layout of the program with a summer start date. I finished the application this morning. What a pain! I went to a gazillion schools. Do you have to mail each transcript request rather than electronic request? It appears so with the CAS form that goes with them. How long did it take you to hear back? If I get accepted we'll be in the same program. PM if you will and I'll give you my email address. I have a ton of questions! Are you going FT or PT?

OMG..I thought they said the deadline to apply is FEB 1st??!!!.I have even applied yet. Jeez!!! I have to call them 1st thing monday!!!

msteelhorse, you are a long mile ahead of me..lol...i have a lot of catching up to do. Okay, if i am able to, I will apply for MSN PSYCH summer, fall, and spring....which ever program I get in, prefer full though...

University of Colarado -Anschutz campus (office of life long learning) has an online Patho and Pharm..they say over 16 weeks. For that long I was thinking about taking both classes then do NUR Assess in the summer...

I'm not far ahead, sista! I haven't even submitted the application. I am confused about the transcript requests. Can you take that path and pharm for sure? Are you sure they'll transfer? Make sure they are advanced patho and pharm at the grad level. I sent you a PM with my email. So you want to attend FT? Do you work, too?

Yeah, I work 3-12s. USA staff told me they will accept transfer credits as long as the material correspond with theirs-12 credits total..yes it says advanced...the staff said that as long as the school is regionally accredited then that is fine. To be on the safe side though I will only take grad classes. USA's part time schedule does not take a long time either so I might just opt for whatever I can get in BSN-DNP is sort of my last resort. I need to start school by the fall though or def. spring....I will start the apps tom (sun) so I can site down ?? to get them answered when I call 1st thing mon--including electronic transcript request....

Keep in touch! I just worked through the tedious application. I don't get if you can go PT in the fall or what??? Summer is not my first pick...fall is better. I think it will be challenging but I want to do it. I'm an "older" student with lots of responsibilities so we'll see. Thanks for the tips. I need to check out that university for adv path. I would LOVE to get that sucker outta the way. Thanks!

I saw the the University of Colorado FMHNP program you have to move to Colorado for your practicum? Is this the same for USA?

TASHA, USA is all online and you do clinical in your area...well except for a 2-3 days on campus orientation that they say is mandatory....I am in Texas so UofCol is out for me...have you taken any grad classes-path, pharm, Nur Assessment?

Thanks, I checked the online information and since I live in Texas Tuition is doubled 381 for residents and 700 something for non- residents. The PMHNP program looks good but I need something more cost efficient. Are you a current student?

I was told by Eric for grad (online) it is $465 p/cr....If by chance it is $700 I am out..especially since I plan to pay for most of it out of pocket...

rajan2 no I have just started my search this weekend. I was initially thinking about MSN (Leadership & Management). A friend ask why I was not interested in the PMHNP program since my speciality is psychiatric nursing. Everything is new information for me. I may still have to take stastics at the community college. I may not be able to actually apply until April/May.

This is from the web page. It may have gone up a tad, but the $700+ is for brick and mortar students. Online has a different tuition rate. You have to scroll down the page to find it. It seems I read some place else on their website that it was a little bit higher than this...still much cheaper that MANY programs.

Ah, I went back and did see the exact same thing. Well that's a horse of a different color. When I saw 700 for out of state my search came to a screeching halt. I was up until 3:30 am checking out schools, now I'm to sleepy to get excited!! Thanks for the clarification.
