NNP Program advice needed

Hello~

Im an NICU RN with 4 years of exp. And am looking to go back to school for my NNP. I'm leaning twords the online format since I work midnights. Wondering if anyone has been through an online program and could give me advice as to what to expect, how the program functioned, if you regret not going the classroom route, etc. I'm in the DFW Texas area, but the NNPs I work with all seem to say either is fine as long as i have a degree it won't matter which route I take in the end. I can't help but wonder if I'm going to miss out anything in an online format though. Thanks for any help you can offer.

I would say the format is more a personal choice. I'm fairly motivated, and I like to be able to move at my own pace, not be hindered by the least common denominator pace of a classroom. Nothing drives me crazier than when I get to a class, and the lecturer wastes most/all of my time giving me nothing new, or rehashing what was basic in the required reading. But, that is just me. I'd rather be given the assignment, do the work, and move on at my pace.

For example, in my patho class (and several others), their was assigned reading, a list of objectives, and several pre-recorded videos for each topic. I could do any/all of those things, and I could contact the professor on my own or in a forum setting as I needed to. The class was broken into thirds, I could take any and all of the exams in the first third during those weeks, same for the middle third, etc. This allowed me to work at my pace. It also allowed me to go over material I knew well, fairly rapidly, and then concentrate for a longer period of time on topics I was not as knowledgeable on.

Now that's just me. Other's may prefer a classroom setting, and that's fine for them. As I said, I think it's great that there are online programs, and I think it's great that there are classroom programs. Different people find each type of program easier to learn from.

What program did you go through and would you recommend it?

I'm FNP, not NNP... Sorry, I should have made that clear.
