Does anyone here have any information as to what the acceptance rates are for these programs or have a ballpark? I am considering applying for 2015 and am trying to gather as much information as possible . Looking to hear about others' experiences.

Direct entry NP?

My understanding is they are the most competitive of all nursing program, aside from maybe CRNA school. They are all the rage now as everyone wants switch careers and become an NP as fast as possible so they too can rake in the big bucks and have one of "America's Best Jobs."

I think it depends on the school, but the acceptance rate published for Univ of Minn is less than 15%. This is a direct entry MSN but not a direct entry NP program.

Most direct entry programs provide a generalist MSN. I think their popularity lies in the fact that they are about the same length as a second degree BSN but give you the masters instead.

My program's NP DE acceptance rate was about 10%. There's a lot of interest, and most schools can pick and choose their students. Somehow, you need to set yourself apart from the masses.

Oh yeah, another point - if you look at the list of direct entry schools, it's almost entirely made up of reputable universities. In fact, it's mainly the top NP programs in the country. This is why they are so competitive: there are currently no diploma mill for-profit programs out there accepting everyone. I'm sure it's only a matter of time until that starts (so they can take advantage of all the career changers and their deep pocketbooks), at which point the DE acceptance rate will be 100%. Hurray!
