Clinical hours while working days

Nursing Students NP Students

I have a few FNP programs that I'm looking at (in TX) & I really, really want to do it. My concern is that I currently work as a school nurse M-F 7:45-3:45 & I am not sure this schedule is going to be compatible with getting in all the clinical hours I will need.

Not working is really not an option for me because I have 3 kids, 2 in college to support. Does anyone have experience with successfully completing a NP program in a situation like this or any positive or negative input? I want to do it but I don't want to waste my time & $$ getting started if it's not going to be realistic.

I did an FNP program while working mostly full-time as a school nurse. I would say it can definitely be done but would depend upon how flexible the district is. I requested leave days to accommodate clinical time (available clinical time can vary depending on the site), did lots of clinicals during summer and school breaks, and school vacations. Good luck!
