Nursing Students SRNA

Hello,

I am currently an ICU nurse working in a Trauma 1 hospital. I am interested in CRNA however I am concerned that the non-traditional grading system of my nursing school will prevent me from getting into CRNA school. The school I attended Roseman University is technically a pass/fail program but does post an "A" grade on my transcript in each of my classes. I was wondering if there is anyone that has had a similar experience. Roseman University is fully accredited. Thanks!

That's tough for the program to compare you to their other applicants. Can you take some courses which are traditionally graded?

I went to Roseman University as well. I'm also interested in a CRNA program. Have you found out anymore information?

(btw when did you graduate?)

I don't see why you couldn't. You passed and graduated and you receive a transcript from an accredited school. There should be no problem getting into a CRNA program.

Sorry I am just seeing this post now. I graduated with the first class in Utah in 2011. I have not found much more information. But I haven't applied yet either. I am going to start applying next summer to a few schools that I am interested in. One thing I do know that gives me some hope is that our class president got into the DNP program here in Utah, and they counted his GPA from roseman as a 4.0

Which is awesome. If I can get a school to see it as a 4.0 it will boost my GPA to a 3.5 which actually gives me a chance. I would really like to know if somebody got into a CRNA school that went roseman and which school they got into. What do you think? Do you think we have a chance of getting in with the way roseman does grades?

hey jpomax. it looks like everyone who goes to Roseman wants to be a CRNA. I will be following the same track! let us know where you get in!

Hey everyone, thanks for your comments, just a very late follow up, I got into Wolfords CRNA program in naples. I just started my second semester and so far it has been amazing! I highly recommend this school. Good luck!

that's so exciting! I am glad that there is hope for us Roseman grads!

Congrats on getting into that program jpomax! We just found out that Roseman was a pass/fail program and had a heart attack. They never told us that before and felt like we couldn't pay that much money for a pass/fail program as my husband is going to do CRNA after as well. That's been our only plan all year. Were you able to apply to any program you wanted? Did you have any issues with your Roseman pass/fail program and CRNA programs?? My husband really doesn't want to go the long nursing route I took and wants the 16 months till BSN thing for sure and so do I. Thanks!

According to Westminister College in SLC, UT which is the only program in Utah that offers a CRNA program. They accept roseman university. "

  • The credit awarded is for coursework with grades of C- or better. Marks of credit (CR) or pass (P) are not accepted unless verified as equivalent to a C- or above. (Except physical education classes which are offered only for grades of CR or P.)

They said as long as they receive a letter stating a P grade is equivalent to a A grade. They will accept it as a A grade

Did all of you Roseman grads here get an A on each of your classes on your transcript as well as the Pass? Getting nervous as graduation approaches and many schools I have spoken to will not accept the pass as an A...

As of July 2014, they changed their grading system to Pass/fail grade. It use to be where be they graduated with all A grades and a GPA of 4.0. But now you just get P grades and no gpa! I hate that they did that. It's so stupid! At least that is how the south jordan, Utah campus is. But I think it is the same at all campuses.

This is from their 2016/2017 handbook

"For students enrolled in classes that started after July 1, 2014, a Pass ("P") or No-Pass ("NP") grade will appear on the transcripts as stated in the CON Student Handbooks. A grade point average (GPA) will appear on the transcript for students enrolled in the ABSN July 2014, BSN August 2014 and ABSN October 2014 cohorts based on the language in the Student Handbook. The Registrar's Office will include a signed letter from the Dean (verbiage below) which explains how a P” is equated with a 4.0 GPA in Roseman's P/NP grading system. This letter will be submitted to the external agency in the same sealed envelope as the official transcript. The letter will not be given to the student.Students enrolled in cohorts that started after October 2014 would receive a Pass ("P") or No-Pass ("NP") grade. For students who were enrolled, withdrew, and were re-admitted to a cohort that started after October 2014, grades earned after this date will be recorded using the "P"/"NP" system. If a student requires a GPA in addition to an official transcript as part of the admissions criteria for graduate programs or other external entities, he/she should contact the Registrar's office. DEAN'S LETTER EXPLAINING THE GRADUATE'S GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA)

Please review this explanation of Roseman University's College of Nursing's educational model and grading system prior to reviewing a candidate's transcript. Thank you.

The College of Nursing embraces a competency-based educational philosophy in which all students are held to high standards of academic performance. A mastery model of education is used that requires a student to achieve a score of 90% or greater on each learning activity, including assessments to receive a grade of Pass (P”). In this educational system, scores for learning activities are never averaged nor graded on a curve. Students can only earn a grade of Pass (P”) or No-Pass (NP”). Likewise, there is not a range in a numerical GPA value. Thus, a student who receives a 90% or greater (P”) is considered to have earned a 4.0 GPA."
