Does Rush only have a post masters certificate program or is there a BSN to MS__(whichever degree they use) like most other programs. I've tried to navigate their website but I get the impression you need to have a masters to be accepted into it. Also, I thought the site mentioned that there is no need to move for clinicals like they would set you up with sites near your home. Is that the case and how would that work?

GLBK-
Know your ACLS ecg tracings BBB and what meds work which ones i.e. what works for mobitz2 and 3rd degree. General cardiac signs and symptoms as well as general respiratory problems. This is generally what almost all of the schools in Illinois and Michigan asked.

MNrun,

Sorry I'm not able to PM yet. The interview went well and I was accepted! I just accepted the offer today. How much is the deposit?

Congratulations! The deposit is $500. Is RFU your first choice or are you waiting on some other schools? I think it will be a great experience. I recently talked with a student in the program and she said without a doubt she feels she will be more than ready to practice in a variety of settings upon graduation. I know they is some travel involved, but they are always attempting to add more clinical sites. Do you know if the class is full, did you interview with about 4 or 5 others? They have been interviewing people for at least 2 months now.

RFU was the only place I applied. There were 2 others interviewing at the same time as me. I think we were probably the last to interview because I received my acceptance email the next day. I would assume they have filled all the spots now, unless people are being offered and then declining to go somewhere else, then their spot is open again. What kind of info did they send after you accepted by email? Do they send you financial aid info, class schedule, book list anything like that?

I received the form to send with the deposit. I haven't received anything related to class or books. Maybe all that will be coming once the spots are filled. Financial aid information is right on the website, and the office is very helpful. Are you going to be commuting far or living near school?

to "acrnahopeful"

After carefully reading the admissions guidelines, I am under the impression that Rush accepts applicants with ADs or BSNs as long as they are attractive candidates i.e. good GRE scores, references, experience, etc. The anesthesia program is an MSN program that will be transitioning to the DNP around 2013 or so. The clinical situation is described in the following quote from the website:

Most student clinical experience occurs at Rush University Medical Center, where there are over 40 anesthetizing locations. Students also rotate to Rush-North Shore Medical Center in Skokie, Illinois; Holy Family Hospital in Des Plaines, Illinois; Rush-Oak Park Hospital, in Oak Park, Illinois; MacNeal Memorial Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois; John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County, Chicago, Illinois and the Rush Surgical Center. The Rush University Simulation Lab and its resources are used across the nurse anesthesia curriculum to provide valuable pre-clinical and crisis management skills.

Rush has a very reputable program and is known to train their students for success right out of the gates (some graduates even have shortened orientations at their first jobs because they are seen as incredibly competent for being a newby) by being very demanding during the residency. According to the Program Director and Assistant director, every year they receive calls recruiting their graduates. I liked the sound of that for sure!

All in all it was the best fit for me, and I encourage you to see if it's what you want in a school/program. All the best...

I'll be commuting from Milwaukee, the drive is about an hour. I'm hoping there might be other Milwaukee classmates that would be interested in carpooling.

I'm sure there will be. I have a feeling that commute is going to get really long! I talked with someone that is in the program now that commuted from there and she said it got really long when she had to commute for anatomy in the summer five days a week. We are going to live right on campus for the first 5 quarters and then decide what to do.
