Prior military experience (ancillary medical) helpful for admission??

by Natef26

I'm a CRNA wannabe and trying like crazy to get the final loose ends of my prereqs done before applying this fall for next fall 09 start date.

I have 10 years prior enlisted military experience (Air Force) in an ancillary medical field (clinical lab).

I'm curious if this would help me at all with increasing the odds of success with getting admitted?

I will have the following when I apply:

80 hours of CRNA shadowing time
ICU experience: 1 year 4 months at application and 2 years 4 months just before school starts
Nursing GPA: 3.795
Science GPA: probably 3.7
*Cumulative GPA: 3.1214 (this is counting OLD OLD course work not applicable to nursing. from 1991-1992 when I was a complete idiot)
GRE- assume 1100
CCRN
ACLS/PALS/TNCC/BLS

Applying to Kaiser and Texas Wesleyan

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

I too have about 12 years AF experience. I was a f-15 crew chief for 4 years and have been a medic in reserves since. My military experience came up in both interviews at TCU and TWU. I made alternate at TWU and got in at TCU. I am pretty sure it had a large part in my admission into TCU. In your letter for school, talk about all the attributes you gained from the military.

Good luck

You are definately in if you don't blow your interview/1st impression. My interview was 5 mins long, my GRE score stunk but my GPA 3.9
