Hey Elle, I'm going to be traveling from San Diego as well. What day are you flying out? Have you book your plane ticket already?

Hey MonYmonY: I purchased my ticket a couple of days ago and I will be arriving in New Haven on Weds (1/17) evening and leaving Saturday morning. I am thinking of attending the Thursday evening Potluck... How about you?? What speciality track are you going for?

Hey Elle, I'm going for the pediatric np track and i'll be leaving on the 18th and arriving around 5:30 so I'm going to try to make it to the potluck if I have time. THen I'm heading back to San Diego on the 20th. DO you know where you are staying? I think I might do the Marriot deal, but still not sure. Are you going to school in San Diego now or working there?

I will probably being doing the Marriot deal for one of the nights but I am hoping to be able to stay with a current GEPN student for two nights... We'll see. As of right now, I am working in SD. Graduated from UCSD this spring and taking a couple of science pre-reqs for the program. How about you? Where else did you apply?

Hey again! I'm going to USD right now and will graduate this coming May. I also applied to Western University of Health Sciences and have an interview there on the 16th of Jan, Vaderbilt, Seattle University, and I got rejected from UCSF :(! How about you? Are you flying directly into New Haven or into Hartford?

Yeah, I will be flying right into New Haven.... Didn't want to have to deal with renting a car and all that. What about you? I also applied to UCSF (got rejected ), Columbia, UCLA and Northeastern. Good luck @ Western! Which school would be your 1st choice?

Honestly, I'd go anywhere that accepts me :) But Yale is Yale... so that might have to be my #1. You?! Have you had any medical experience in San Diego? I wish I had more time to get some more experience in.... but that looks doubtful!

Like you said, Yale is Yale. Columbia would be amazing also and UCLA would be a lot more affordable. I'll just have to see who wants me and go from there. Yeah, I've done quite a bit of medical volunteering throughout college. A couple hospitals and I am now a volunteer @ Planned Parenthood. I've shadowed a few women's health NPs (the speciality I am going into) and attended a couple of births. Have you done any volunteer work? If you do end up having any free time, Planned Parenthood is great! They are one of the only places that actually allows volunteers direct patient contact. Very fun! Anyway, we should try to meet up for coffee or something prior to going out there... compare notes or whatever.

Thanks for the advice about planned parenthood.. thats a really good idea! Are you at the one by mission beach by chance?! I went abroad one semester to Spain and had an internship at a children's hospital there which was really good experience. I also have volunteered at several hospitals, however, I wish I had more shadowing experience. I've shadowed one pediatric NP a while back. What day are you leaving again? We should definitly try to meet up. However, I'm in Arizona now where my family lives and I won't be heading back to San Diego until the 16th at night after my Western interview. If we don't have time to meet up before we should try to meet up in CT if we have time!!!

Just a quick lodging FYI:

I called Marriott yesterday to reserve a room and there was no longer an interview rate available.

The Colony is closed until Fall 2007.

Three Chimneys Inn is closed period.

I ended up getting a AAA rate at the Marriott through a hotel website.

If you will not have a rental car I would search Yale's main campus website for accomodations near the main campus. And then see if the campus shuttle can take you to YSN on your interview date.

I will be driving up from NJ and I would be happy to give folks a ride from the Marriott or another close location to interviews on the 22nd.

Actually, I am at the Mission Bay location (basically in PB). It sounds like you have a good volunteer background. That'll def help. I will be arriving in CT on January 17th (weds) and leaving the 20th (sat). We should def meet up in CT. Will you be there on Thursday day at all? I was thinking of devoting that day to checking out the campus and the surronding area.

Thanks for the offer May Baby... I was hoping for the Marriot deal and was waiting to hear from the lady at YSN to see about accomodations at a students house... Haven't heard from her yet but I guess I should make reservations. I have AAA so I may try Marriott. You said you booked it directyl through the hotel website? Is it located within walking distance to the campus? Thanks
