Why would you be interested in a DNP Degree?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

We are conducting a research study exploring the reasons nursing students, registered nurses, nurses enrolled in master's degree nurse practitioner programs, and master's prepared nurse practitioners might consider entering a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program. The survey includes demographic data, employment information, and in depth questions for considering entry to a DNP program. We expect to gain a better understanding of potential students', nurses, and nurse practitioners' rationale for entering a program. The results will be used to inform schools of nursing as well as members of the professional community.

We greatly appreciate your participation and welcome your feedback about the survey content and structure. Your participation in the survey is voluntary. Your answers are confidential and the survey responses will be known only to the investigators. Only aggregate data will be shared and no participant will be identified by name. The level of risk is minimal and similar to most professional organization applications. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. There are 22 questions in the survey. If you choose to participate in the survey, you acknowledge that you will not have access to the data. If you choose to not participate, you may do so now or at any time during the survey. There will be no consequences to you for not participating; your rights, including your employment and educational status, will not be compromised.

If you have any suggestions or questions at any time, contact Janice Smolowitz, DNP, EdD at [email protected]. If you have any questions about your rights as a research subject, you should contact the Institutional Review Board at (212) 305*5883. Bumping up for more of a response! Thanks!

Specializes in hospice.

I'm still just a CNA hoping to be a student soon, but the reason I would pursue a DNP if I ever did is that it will be required in future to become a nurse-midwife. Or at least that's what I hear.

Specializes in nursing education.

The last question had too limited of choices and no "other" option.

Not bad at all, real quick and easy.

Bumping up for more responses! Thank you!!

puravidaLV, I checked the link and it seems to be working. Please try again! If you have any further issues, please contact me directly.

Thank you for your help!

Best,

Amy

Bump!!

I agree the choices for the final question are too limited:

Hospital setting as an RNHospital setting as an NP

Hospital setting as a nurse executive

Ambulatory private practice as an RN

Ambulatory practice as an NP

Community or public health

Faculty/educator

The only advanced practice role listed is NP. Ummmm, what about all of us CNSs, CNMs, and CRNAs? Are we all supposed to want to become NPs? Sorry, no. If I had any interest in the NP role, I would have gone in that direction a long time ago. I'm really surprised that question was written (if it actually was) by nurses. Usually, it's the general public that seems unaware of any advanced practice role other than NP.

Thank you for your feedback!! I will forward it to my research partners!

Thank you for taking our survey- your responses are very important to us! Please encourage your colleagues to take the survey as well.

Best wishes,

Amy

Final bump! Closing the survey next week.

We only need a few more responses to meet our goal! Please take a moment to complete this brief survey.

Thank you!
