Vanderbilt Pre-specialty Fall 2011

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi all!

I just wanted to get a thread started for those who plan on applying to Vanderbilt's prespecialty (for non-nurses) MSN program. I only recently discovered this program about 2 months ago and am absolutely enamored with it! I plan to apply to 8 schools for this cycle, but Vanderbilt is at the very top of my list. I am looking into FNP, which has the distance option. I am not sure whether or not I would prefer to stay at Vanderbilt for the whole program, but I do like that there is the option.

Aside from finishing up micro this summer and taking the GRE in a month, I am fully ready to apply. Just need the application for 2011 to open up!:lol2:

Anyone else?

Hello Everyone! Well, I noticed a lot of people wanting to be informed about moving off the wait list. I was accepted today after being placed on the FNP (Pre-speciality) wait list! I am unsure of how many people were on the wait lis. They would not release any information about how many people were on the wait list when I called to acquire info about my number on the wait list. I do wish everyone still on the wait list luck. It is awful not knowing whether or not you will be accepted. Good luck to all! Now, I was wondering if there was anyone who could give me information about the best person to talk to about financial aid. I have already submitted my FAFSA and completed the scholarship application, but I was wondering if anyone had any tips or info about the best way to go about paying for your tuition. I know federal student loans will only pay for about 20,000 of the tuition. So, for you already accepted students (who can't pay out of pocket for the remaining portion of the tuition) how are you going to pay? Thank you and God bless!

I just accepted as well for Pre-Specialty FNP! Im REALLY torn now because I already said yes and paid 350 deposit at Samuel Merritt so I dont know what to do!! Anyone know which is more reputable? More expensive in the long run? This is SO stressful! But in a good way :) Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Wow... thank you so much for all that info. I really really appreciate it. I'm actually excited about doing my clinicals at home....

Thanks again!

where is home for you? Im a little confused about the distance learning...

I just accepted as well for Pre-Specialty FNP!

Would either or both of you share how you found out you were taken off the wait list? Were you informed by phone call, email or letter? Thank you kindly.

I also am wondering how were were notified of being accepted or being taken off the waitlist? Phone call? Mail? E-mail? Congratulations, by the way, to those who were accepted! Have you guys been accepted to the actual Master's FNP program? What is the difference from the pre-FNP program? I applied for the FNP program for the fall of 2011 and was told the clinical sites were full by the time they received my application, so they placed me on the waitlist. I'm so anxious to know if I have any chance at all of getting accepted. I was told that I couldn't really do any thing to increase my chances (tae extra classes, etc), so I'm just sitting, waiting, wishing, and working... :)

I was informed of being taken off the list via a phone call.

Thank you.

I'm declining my acceptance to pre-specialty nurse-midwifery, so someone will be getting off of the waitlist soon!

@ junipers-Do you mind if I ask why you declined? Where did you decide to go instead? Why wasn't it a good fit? PM me if you prefer. Any advice to a current applicant for pre-specialty midwifery??? Thanks!

Does anyone know how competitive the PMHNP specialty is for prespecialty students? I have seen a few posts from those getting a PMHNP, but not nearly as many than the other specialties. Are these other specialties more competitive due to more applicants? Any insight from anyone would be great. And if there are any PMHNP students out their who have a minute, I would love to ask a few more questions. Thanks everyone.

Specializes in FNP: Urgent Care & Primary Care; RN: Med-Surg.

Does anyone know how many spots are in the FNP program. Also, would you guys mind posting your stats? My gpa is 3.6 with gre of 1000. Not very impressive.

I'm in the same boat. I just heard about this program a few days ago and seriously considering applying. I'm thinking I want to do this instead of getting a master's in social work.

Can someone please tell me how competitive the psych np program is? I'm also a little intimidated by 3 semesters crammed with pre-specialty nursing classes. I have no idea what to expect!
