Hi UOP friends,

I am scheduled to take NUR/590A -NURSING PRACTICUM-A in about 5 weeks. Has anyone taken this course yet? If so, how was it. The course outline looks very challenging? Will I be required to collaborate with a MSN/PhD prepared nurse (mentor) at a universlity, hospital, clinical setting and/or nursing facility? I need to know should I start searching for a professor or instructor early to get his/her permission to work with him/her (planning ahead). I really need help guys, comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Praise, RN

UOP Friends,

Is anyone a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant (CLNC) or know someone who is? I was looking at the course offered by: Vickie L. Milazzo, RN, MSN, JD. I've always wanted to do consultant work related to nursing practice and this seems like a very appropriate way to add to ones knowledge as an advance degree prepared nurse once completing the uop MSN program. Any comments or suggestions especially from indiviudals who are certified and/or know someone who is (especially pay rate particularly North Caroina or your geographical area).

Your colleage,
Praise, RN

PraiseRN - for Nurs 590 - I did some time with a masters prepared manager - no problem - no big deal. I did my MSN with UofP with a concentration in management and leadership, so it was a non-clinical focus.

nurse79 - I did both my BSN and MSN via UofP and have found it readily acceptable to everyone. I then went on to to a post-MSN adult health CNS and again, no problems whatsoever.

It is an interesting process. In hindsight I am seeing how it fits the andragogy model and the needs of the adult learner as well as some of the constructivist princliples of active learning. You will have 14 months to finish the learning activity you set up and then present in NUR 590B. I will be turning in my midpoint review soon and taking the part B as my next to last class. The completion of the objectives, or at least my experience has been, that they take a lot longer than you think when forming your outline. Good luck and have fun with it.

I graduated in 1/2006, no issues with the program since it is fully accreditted.
I only had six months from NUR 590a to b but they have revamped the program.

Hi Everyone!
I just read through this thread for the second time. The first time I was just thinking about finally getting my MSN, and tonight I am reading it after applying to the UoP program. It's good to see that others were as apprehensive as I am. I am so confident in my nursing skills and day to day functioning on the unit, but then I do this and I feel nervous??? It seems silly. Thanks to everyone for posting encouraging words.
If all goes as planned, I will start with the introduction class July 31. I've chosen the MSN/MHA degree. I enjoy working in the hospital, and see opportunities with this path.
I know you're all busy, but keep in touch, and I'll do the same!

Utilizing medication aides in skilled nursing facilitites versus LPN's? This is deifinitely a hot topic in my state right now as the board of nursing has approved the use of med tech in SNF. Education only includes 1 month of classes 1 day a week....sounds scary and controversial to me....

Good for you JoAnn!! I just returned from Phoenix and participating in commencement. It was hot, but worth it. It was fun to meet other students. I just started a class yesterday and have two left (you can participate in commencement if you are within 9 credits of completion). I will be finished in October!! Time has flown by. THis process by far has been one of the best things I have done for myself and my career.
