Hey Hope,

I was thinking about making hotel reservations for orientation. Somewhere I thought I read that the dates are August 15-17. However, the application shows August 29-31 but the calender shows the first day if class as August 22nd. Do you know for certain when it is? Help again!

Greer,

Sorry, I just read your email.

Our orientation begins Monday August 29, 2011 and the last day is Wed, / August 31, 2011 according to the DNP supplemental application. We probably need to go ahead and make reservations! Where do you live? I live in Northwest Florida. Mobile is a 2 hour drive from my home. I am so excited!

Hey Hope!

I'm coming from a small town near Jackson, MS. I said I'd sleep like a baby, but I've hardly slept at all I am so excited.

I'm working on getting all my immunization titers and renewing my CPR this week. I hope we get the information we need soon so I can proceed with everything else (drug screen and background check).

I look foward to meeting you at our "intensive" orientation - (wonder exactly what that means)

Greer,

I am currently a RN-MSN @ USA , so I have been through the background check and drug screen before. I am sure the DNP process will be similar. In the acceptance packet , there will be a website called "CertifiedBackground.com". It will have instructions and numbers you will use. After the background check is completed then they will tell you when to go for the drug screen. I went to a local LAB CORP and completed mine. CON specifies where you can go to get the drug screen.

I have a friend that started the DNP program Fall of 2010. I will ask her what the orientation consist of!

Hi all

I too got the 2 emails sent out in the last week and 1/2 regarding the offer and signing the acceptance letter respectively. I applied for the ED/Dual Role concentration and had not picked another concentration but I will only know for certain when the letters do arrive which will hopefully be soon. I live in Cincinnati Ohio and hope to meet you all at the on campus orientation. Anyone from this part of the country also starting in August?

I started the USA DNP program last fall and am also from Cincinnati. I had to take this semester off due to work schedule and losing one of our staff. I plan on starting back up this coming semester. I have been pleased with the program thus far. It is a lot of work, research, writing, etc. I have not yet started the FNP/ACNP specific coursework so cannot speak as to whether it is good or bad. The orientation is fine, nice to meet the staff but a lot of "nursing fluff", touchy, feely stuff and projects which I found a little worthless. I, thus far, recommend the program and hope to be as happy with the program as I progress. Good Luck.

I was accepted in the NP program and very disappointed.. it is online and you are given chapters to read and take test every two weeks with no discussion in between by anyone except the other students regarding the study questions.. I went to University of Phoneix for MSN and MBA so I am use to taking online courses.. anyway I dropped.. and trying to evaluate if this is something i really want to do or should I just go to another program..

but good luck to all of you.. your this is my experience.. it may work for you..

Congrats to all who were accepted. I am a FNP in Arizona that was accepted into the Fall DNP program and am excited to get started. I had a few questions for some if you don't mind:

Greer and ICU are you in the MSN-DNP program or the BSN-DNP program?

Does anyone have any information on what books are acutally needed? I saw the list for each class, but you know how the lists are as far as what's required and what's really used.

Any contact information for students in previous classes as far as hints or recommendations that they have?

I look forward to meeting you in August. Any hints for things for my wife to do in Mobile while I am at school all day? Can't wait to start!

I started The University of South Alabama this Spring 2011 Semester, and I am loving it so far. The instructors and professors have all been wonderful, I love the flexiblity of the online coursework, and it is organized in a way where I feel like I am learning a lot but not having to devote my entire life to it. I am in the BSN to DNP Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner track, with the Nursing Education Subspeciality added. I really enjoyed going to Mobile for orientation... even though some of the exercises were kind of painful, I think it was all helpful. Plus, USA's tuition is VERY affordable compared to other institutions.

Good luck to everyone!

Sincerely,

Jay H., RN, BSN, CCRN

Romanryster, I am in the BSN-DNP program. I mailed my completed acceptance packet yesterday. I can't wait to get started either!

I'm not familiar with Mobile, but I'll bet there's a website for the city with interesting things to do and see.

What part of AZ are you in? I lived out west (AZ and NM) for 20 years. I miss the desert terribly!!

I look forward to meeting everyone in August.
