Hi marilynmom, I really like Amedisys so far. I started 3 years ago but took a year off and just started back (I broke my arm and had 2 surgeries). I work PRN/part time and have my own patients and then help others out too. It's a large company so we have alot of training (most on computer) but you get paid for all your time. My supervisor is really good, we have a new director so we'll see. All of it is computerized, schedule, notes everything. It takes awhile to figure it all out. forms etc. All my peers are extremely professional so we really work as a team. That is good. Maybe. I don't take call, I live a long ways from most of the patients and from waht I hear call is not bad. Psych emegencies usually end up in hospital so you rarely have to go out. Let me know how it goes. and with your NP application process. Good Luck!

Have you applied anywhere yet? I emailed one of the contacts asking about how many applicants vs spots at USA, I'll post on here if I hear anything back.

No, I have not applied anywhere yet. The more my spouse and I talk about it the more I want to go to USA. I just don't know how competitive it is to get into. I'd really like to get in for the spring.

Is anyone here psych mental health nursing certified? If so how was the test and did your employer help pay for it? Its so expensive. Do you belong to any psych professional organizations? How do you stay update on current psych nursing?

I am planning to apply Spring 2011. I will graduate with my BSN in Decemeber. my GPA is 3.4 however I did horrible on the GRE, I didn't even make the minimum requirement (shame) I have to retake it in a couple of weeks. I was wonder if you had an idea about how hard it is to get into the FNP track?

I'm in Arkansas also. I've been accepted into UAMS' FMHNP program but their patho class was full this summer so it has put me behind before I've even started! I have also applied to USA and they rolled my application to the spring, so I really don't know what to do. If USA accepts me in spring it's a 6 straight semester progam and I would be finished in 1.5 years whereas UAMS is now a 3 year summers off program. So do I start ? Im 54 and live in a rather rural area for clinical sites and I probably will not go back for DNP unless forced too. I have not seen many openings for Psych NP's and I know of none around here where I live but the VA is opening rural clinics and doing psych at them so hopefully there will be jobs. I don't mind traveling to Little Rock or Ft. Smith a few days a week but not everyday. I ahve worked in Psych mainly adult and geriactric for 15 years and usually love it. I do psychiatric home health now and really like it. Really would love it as an NP. My GPA is 3.2 (I think). I know its above 3.0.

Hi, I have no idea about the UAMS FNP program, I was shocked I got in the UAMS FMHNP program without a wait, so you never know. I do know Arkansas needs alot more providers. You have to wait over a month now for regular doctor visits that are not emergencies. I didn't make the GRE score either(and I did not retake) so you could still get in. Good luck!

bump. Anyone sent in any app's yet?

Ill be honest. I kinda freaked out and didn't sent mine in yet. I started getting really worried about not being able to find a preceptor and then a job after graduation....I just never SEE any jobs for PsychNP around here. But I think Im going to go ahead and mail in my app and just go from there!

I'm sending my stuff in next week! I'm behind the ball and now I'm concerned all my transcripts won't get there in time for the September 1st cut off..ugh. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed. You should mail it in and take it from there.

Sue, your right. I decided to go ahead and send it all in and then make a decision depending on if I even get accepted or not.

I did find out they accept about 15 people for PsychNP every semester, she said it totally varies on how many apply. That is all the info I could get about that.

I feel encouraged :)

We have a new boss at work and she was talking about also being interested in PsychNP. I talked to her about it and she has all sorts of connections and was telling me how greatly indemand psychNP here are where we live. I feel I finally have a connection. She said she hasn't even enrolled in school but has had job offers already because they are in that big of a demand.

Needless to say, that alleviates my fears about finding preceptors and being able to find a job when I graduate, so Im sending in my application tomorrow morning after I get off work :)

Now I just need to get accepted lol

Yeah! I don't think there is anything to worry about in terms of jobs. Good luck.

I am in the USA FNP program.....there is not one of the 120 people still left that would attend this program...Seriously. Please PM me before making the decision to go. Now I can't speak for the Psych classes--but can for the classes leading to that point.
