You are assigned preceptors, you don't have to find your own.

Thanks for offering yourself as a resource Pachinko. I am starting the FNP program in the fall and also will be working part time. I am already having to put my work schedule in for September and October (crazy!) and I'm trying to figure out if there are set clinical days or not. Can you tell me if all FNP students have clinical on the same day their first quarter...or if we even have clinical our first quarter?

Also, I will be commuting from Pasadena. Anyone interested in carpooling? I have classes Tuesday and Wednesday on campus.

There are no clinicals the first quarter; for our cohort at least, classes were Tues-Weds-Thurs, either partial or whole days, all classroom. For FNP, clinicals begin at the beginning of second quarter. There is no set day of the week; you work it out with your preceptor, though you do have some room to request which day you want to have clinical. There are two days of classes and one day of clinicals for the second and third quarter each.

I am currently in a BSN program. I have been a RN for 5 years and have experience in Med/Surg, Tele, Critical Care and currently work in the PACU. I am really interested in applying to UCLA's NP program after my BSN is completed. However, I work and live in Orange County. Is it possible to work full time (3, 12 hours shifts/ week)? Also, I have 2 little kids, is this program possible? Any recommendations & advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thank You!

What time are the classes usually? Are they all day? And how long are clinicals? I am applying to the 2014 cohort.

There is some variability, depending on when you take electives, and depending on whether you take classes during the summer, but in general, it's Tuesdays and Wednesdays for your first year, from 8am to 5pm. You start clinicals in your 2nd quarter, and it's 8 hours a week.

Not sure about 2nd year, but it seems like you build up to 2-3 days of clinicals per week, with decreasing on-campus time.

Hope this helps, good luck!

For FNP 1st year 1st qtr classes were TUE and WED, 8-5p. This qtr, the 2nd, it's the same, TUE and WED, 8-5p. Clinicals start 2nd qtr and u arrange times w/ yer preceptor.

I just completed my first year in the UCLA FNP program. I live in LA and work at UCLA, so I had a lot of contacts for getting my questions answered; it made things much easier. So, if any of you have questions but don't have anyone else to ask, you can post them in the thread or PM me.

ETA: your questions don't have to be about FNP specifically. All of the disciplines are pretty much together for almost all classes for the first quarter, then start to split off from there.

Hi @pachinko. I'm new at this so I don't think I can PM you. I am trying to apply for UCLA fnp program for 2015 fall and have some questions. Do you think I can send you an email or do you mind sending me an email. My email is [email protected]. Thank you so much ;))
