Samuel Merritt ELMSN/FNP Fall 2013 Sacramento

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi Everyone, I haven't seen this thread yet and as the application date (July 1) looms closer I thought I would start one. I am interested to know who is applying, what your undergraduate degree of study was and why you are now going into nursing? I'm taking the TEAS tomorrow!!!

So I will answer my own questions; My name is Darcy, my Bachelor's degree is in gerontology. My plan is to work with the elderly, hopefully in hospice. FNP is the next logical step for me.

thanks!

Ok ... Im gonna warn you this is gonna be a long post but my intention is to calm anyone who is nervous about the interview and hopefully answer any questions regarding the interview process. So I'll start off by saying that I agree with KC613, Just be yourself. Over all I think my interview went well. Although immediately following the interview i didnt feel i did well at all. However once i took a step back and looked at the whole picture I realized I did very well. One thing to try to keep in mind during the interview is that the faculty already knows us from our application. so they are just trying to get to know you and how well your personality fits with their program and how well you interact with others. Don't be intimidated by any of the other applicants. Remember, the panel is watching so they are seeing and hearing everything. So if someone is being too aggressive with voicing their ideas by not letting others speak dont get frustrated; they are making themselves look bad so just roll with it. Dont worry about how much or how little you voice your opinion to the panel. it's not how much you voice your opinions thats important its the quality if your statements and the respectfulness that you show the panel and your fellow students thats the most important. Constantly getting a word in edge wise may cause you to appear obnoxious and not much of a team player. When you present your partner to the panel try to be very thorough. It's not about your partner they are testing YOU!!!! so you must bring your A game and be yourself. There is absolutely NO way to prepare for this. They told us they have 21 addmission spots and 31 wait list spots. They also told us that "if you're wait listed, it doesn't mean that you won't get in." " last class had a lot of movement in the wait list ". I hope this helps. Good luck to everyone

I received an interview invitation for Sept. 22nd. Yipee! :). See the rest of the re-applicants there I am sure!

It was great to meet you on Saturday. So glad that you were in my group. :)

@KC613: it was an absolute pleasure to meet you. Thank you for all of your kind words on Saturday. I really appreciate it. I hope you get the acceptance call at the end of the month

CONGRATS!! Yay, I will see you there. I will be the one sweating bullets. :)

@ALXiong- Hello!! I also have an interview on the 15th from 10-12. Extremely nervous about the process but from everyones comments it seems to be a very relaxed environment. Looking forward to meeting you and everyone else interviewing.

@BeezieGoGiants oh Cool! We are in the same interview. Can't wait to meet you in person!:yeah: Where are you from? At first, I was very stressed about it and talking to my friends who were got accepted into other graduate programs. They all told me to relax and just show the faculties that I am who I am. I couldn't help myself to keep thinking about it though. Just curiosity, anyone here speaks another language beside English? I see it on the website. The program highly desires FNP applicants speak other language especially Spanish. I can not speak Spanish myself. I wish I do though.

Hey thanks KC613, JeninCA, and Kimevans711 for the heads up!! Anyone else in the interview this Saturday the 15th from 1-3? I was originally in the 10-12 interview at first but my flight to Sac Inter. lands at 9:16 so that was cutting it extra close..

Hey guys, I am also in the 10-12 group on Saturday. Very anxious, but looking forward to meeting some other hopefuls! Good luck to everyone!

Do you think they are doing early admittance this year? I read in the CM thread they are already accepting students. Anyone heard anything yet? Good luck with everyone's interview! :))

Hey Teamleon,

I'll be there in the 1-3 group! See you there?! Where are you flying in from?

Hi Chlochlo,

I believe they do early admittance every year so I think this year will be the same. Although no one on this forum has stated they have received early admittance. Many people are interviewing tomorrow, so perhaps next week we will hear more about it.
