Pre-Licensure RN/MSN...VERY interested in surgery/OR

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi!

I am going into my 3rd term of my pre-licensure MSN program ("Generalist Entry Master's program") in Chicago. My undergraduate degree was Human Nutrition and Health Sciences, and I have varying degrees of experience in the medical field, including PCT work.

I have always been interested in OR nursing and really want to become qualified to be both a circulating and scrub nurse, and even an OR charge nurse. My program does not offer OR rotations so I try to get in for independent OR observations as much as possible. My main question is how difficult is it to get into OR nursing? Would it be beneficial for me to become a qualified surgical technician as well? Obviously I've already completed all of my bachelor's/master's level A&P, Biology, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Medical Terminology, etc, so I can't see the need to take classes like these yet again.

If anyone has any advice and or ideas on what I can do or look into, I would greatly appreciate the help.

Andrea
