Online Adult or Family FNP MSN

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi,

I'm planning on starting working on my MSN Fall 07 and I wanted to see if we could start a thread where people could share where they go or what they know about Online FNP or Adult MSN. I made my decision on where to get my RN-BSN on a similar thread under the Distance Learning Area. So, if you can help share your knowledge and experience :-)

I am trying to get into classes for the Fall 2006 at the University of Memphis. I am planning on going to class at the campus this fall and doing the rest on line while travel nursing in the spring via Regents On Line Degree which is offered through TN Board of Regents.

hi,

i am currently enrolled at Univ. of alabama at birmingham online FNP program and I love it. It is great for those who have to work because although you need to be really disciplined to keep up-it gives you the freedom of making your own schedule. I do believe they have a BSN-MSN track at UAB. check out their website...http://www.uab.edu...good luck..i have had good success w/ this school and you dont have to pay out of state tuition and the teachers are very attentive...

I'm happy with UAB also.

I'm so happy to find this thread. I plan to begin working on an MSN Fall 2007 and am considering UAB and the Tenn. State Board of Regents online program mentioned earlier.

Do you live in the Birmingham area? Do you think you'll have any problems finding clinical sites? (I just read the thread about how hard that is.)

Thanks!

Does anyone have the url for the Tenn. Board of Regents program? Thank you:-)

Hi everyone

I am planning to apply to UAB's online FNP program and was excited to read how pleased everyone has been with it. I was wondering if someone currently enrolled could post with some more information/specifics about how it's all set up, clinicals, etc???

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aimee

I was doing the post masters online at UAB but had to go on leave because I couldn't get clinical placement set up in time(I'm out of the country). They will give you a list of all their clinical sites if you ask. I only had to do two non-clinical courses and had no problem with the courses or UAB. We are setting up a clinic where I work so I should soon have a clinical site right here ...bummer, eh? Can't find a clinical site...build one, lol!

Thank you so much for replying. I'm a little confused about the clinical requirement though. From what I read on the website, it looked like we could choose a preceptor in our town (physician or NP) to do our clinicals. Do you just submit your request for approval or do you have to go to a pre-selected site? I actually live in Tennessee.

Thanks for your help :)

There is a link to "Forms" on the UAB website that has the forms required for preceptorship. I was told by UAB, after they checked it out with their legal guys that I could pick an appropriate physician (not ortho for example for FNP) in any country as long as they were board certified in the USA or NP trained in the USA.

I know Florida State University has an online FNP program, if anyone is interested. They offer Part-time and Full-time tracks.

I don't know anything else about it though.

That sounds really great! This program really seems to have its act together and seems pretty flexible. Thank you for your help!!
