Hi Everyone,

I am new . . . this is a great resource to be able to ask each other questions!

I was wondering - how did you all decide whether to apply to the Accelerated or Traditional option? I am interested in the BSN/MSN/MPH. I was not sure if you could do either the Traditional or Accelerated, or whether you had to do a specific one.

Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks!

i too am applying to JHU.

as for your question, i think you could do either traditional or accelerated. the pace may be a bit easier in traditional, but because (i assume) the mph/msn courses for the most part will come after your bsn, i don't think it would matter. i was very interested in the msn/mph, but i don't know about adding any extra coursework to a load i'm afraid of already.

the big drawback for me in applying is the city of baltimore. it seems like a mash up between philadelphia and pittsburgh, but thats based on a few weekends i've played around there.

Hey all! I am going to be in Baltimore from the 10-14th for an interview at Hopkins for the BSN/MSN program. Is anyone else flying in to interview during that time? If so, I would love to meet up for dinner or coffee!

Congrats, Protongirl! That's awesome. Did you apply Early Decision or did you just apply for regular admission? I know that the regular admission deadline isn't until 11/15... so it seems weird that they'd start interviewing candidates before the actual deadline.

Unfortunately, I have to wait until the very last minute to submit my app because I'm waiting for a recommendation from a supervisor who was out on maternity leave all fall.

I guess I haven't posted on this thread in a while. I ended up doing great on the GRE-- 1460. Unfortunately, I didn't do so hot on the writing portion because I panicked a little at the beginning of the test. I only got a 4.0. I ended up re-taking it since Vandy requires a 4.5. It was really stressful because I hadn't studied in over a month and I was really out of practice on the math questions! I only went down 30 points to a 1430 so, I was pretty happy. But, I haven't gotten my new writing score in the mail, yet...

Yes, I applied ED. I was surprised how soon I was contacted for an interview as well, but they do have to make a decision before December 15. They are really efficient though, they received my application packet Thursday morning and contacted me Monday morning!

I am not sure if they interview every applicant to the BSN/MSN program or if they screen the applications first. I would love to know though, I am trying to not read too much into getting an interview! Anyone know?

Angie Grace - that is an excellent GRE score, way to go! I was happy with my verbal & quant (730/710), but not so happy with my written (5.0). Writing is usually where I shine, but it is just so little time and so much pressure! From what I have heard, programs are most interested in your verbal score - and yours must be in at least the 90% percentile!

Good luck (although it sounds like you will be fine without luck)!

I bet they do some screening before they offer interviews and I really doubt that they'd invite everyone who applies. If so, it would be pretty inconsiderate because I'm sure that they get applicants from all over the country and it costs a lot of $$$ to travel to Baltimore. I'd be annoyed if I spent all of that money and they weren't seriously considering my application, y'know? If I'm not going to make the first "cut" just tell me!

Edited to add-- Yes, my verbal score was definitely in the 90th percentile. I'm actually way better at math than verbal. I've just always been that way! I got a 790M and a 670V but, my percentile scores were almost identical since so many folks score so high in math!

I agree that it makes sense that they would not interview everyone, but how quickly they contacted me makes me wonder! It is impressive how friendly and helpful they manage to be with the amount of applications that they must receive!

That is an amazing quant score Abbie! It is amazing how the percentiles differ on the GRE though - my 730 verbal put me in the 99th percentile, but my 710 quant was only in the 73rd percentile! I'm sure your writing score will have jumped up! How are your essays coming? Applying to so many schools is like a running a marathon! As soon as one amazingly stressful essay is done, another one is almost due! I still have to work on ones for Vanderbilt and Columbia, aacck.

Thanks for the kind words amojo! When I was at the open houses for UCSF and Hopkins I was really impressed (and a little intimidated) by how amazing all of the applicants are. No matter where we all end up going, it should be an amazing experience!

Protongirl - they do interview everyone, either in person or by phone, that applies to the combined BSN/MSN program. I applied ED, and I did my interview back on October 12th. It's not too bad. They just want to know a bit more about you as a person and why you want to go to Hopkins. Also, go prepared to talk about anything you feel didn't come across very well in your application. Hope this helps. Good luck, and maybe we will be classmates come next summer.

Applied ED Acc. BSN/MSN. Was confident at first, but after reading threads from previous years ,where other applicants had similar credentials and background to mine, I'm not so sure anymore. The combined acceptance rate is 15% correct?

Did anyone apply for the merit scholarship? And did all you of complete all pre reqs before applying? i did both, but I'm cursious what the status of most of us are.
