Which grad school to choose?? U South AL, Ind State U, U of Southern Ind

Students Post Graduate

I was a late bloomer. Graduated from a diploma program in 1981 and finally finished my BSN in June '08. I want to pursue a MSN to ACNP. My background is all CCU, CVICU, and then Cath/EP lab.

Because of my rather advanced age (52) I was afraid I wouldn't be accepted based upon my probable years of work left. So I applied to three different online programs.

I've been accepted to:

University of South Alabama

University of Southern Indiana

Indiana State Univeristy

Can I get some feedback from folks who have attended any of the three? In particular, anyone who has completed or is currently pursuing an ACNP from any of these universities?

I am accepted for Spring '09 so I need to make a decision in the next couple of weeks.

I would appreciate any insight, suggestions, opinions, etc.

Warm regards,

Debbie

Debbie, hi I would like to talk to you more. I've applied to these programs too for the FNP program. Actually, I want to start school fall 2009. I have applied to over 30 programs actually. I know it's a lot but I figured I would have to get into atleast one program if I applied to that many.

Anyhow, so far I have heard back from University of Phoenix ground campus for May 2009 start date. I am BSN alumni for UOP so that was a good thing because my books will be free for being an alumni.

Just curious...how long did it take to hear back after you submitted your applications? Also, did you apply to any ground campus schools? What are your plans for working during school? Maybe we can chit chat off the blog about some stuff....

Send me a pm.

Let's talk...

I would suggest email to students of those programs. One of the biggest shams in the country, as one of many examples, is going off of that list of graduate schools by Newsweek. They rate schools only by faculty input, at least those who reply, and fail to give input from students actually attending.

If you want to PM me your email, I will send to my cohort at USI. Be prepared, though, for 110 favorable responses. For ISU, contact Mary (don't know her last name) at the College of Nursing, Health and Human Services. She is a key administrative assistant and if you tell her you are a prospective student wanting to dialogue with other NP students via email, I think she might send your email and name as a block to other FNP students.

I was accepted to USA for Spring 09 FNP..their alumni that I have talked to have spoke highly of the program..my only concern is that I have had a LOT of problems with contact with them..and if you are a distance learner I don't think it is too much to expect to have your advisor email you back or return phone calls..can you tell I'm still a little ticked..USI seems to be a good program b/c everyone on this board has spoken very highly of it..anyways...good luck

I have a friend going into her last semester of USA's program and she speaks the world of it. She says the teaching is well above par. I looked into going there myself but I wanted to move some place completely new. I found everyone involved with the program that I spoke to extremely helpful and they seems to have a solid program. Don't know anything about the other to schools.
