Dnp Why?

My school is considering starting a DNP program. What exactly would this do for my future? With it I can be a nursing professor, only clinical instructor which I can do with my MSN anyway. It won't garner me any additional pay. I don't mean to seem cynical. But really what good will it do me. It will cost me around $40k. I want to increase my knowledge for my patients, and an extra year or two of clinical is always welcome, but not to the tune of 40k. Any comments or suggetions? Thanks Tim
