Direct Entry MSN Programs 2013

Anyone on here applying to direct entry MSN programs that begin in summer or fall of 2013? I think I have finalized my list of programs to apply to, and I am beginning to get everything together to start applying this summer/early fall (I know this is rather early, but I'm a bit anxious and I was wondering if there was anyone else on this board who is just as excited as me!). I am pretty certain that I will be applying to UPenn, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Northeastern, University of Massachusetts, Boston College, Columbia, Vanderbilt, and Marquette. I am also applying to a few accelerated BSN programs in my state (Florida) - UCF and UF, for sure. I have all of my prerequisite courses completed, and currently have a 3.76, but my BS is still in progress and I have to retake the GRE this summer. I look forward to hearing from other people!

Hi everyone!

I am applying to UIC's PMHNP program. From what I understand, interviews will be mid March. Has anyone been contacted for an interview at UIC yet? I'm anxiously awaiting some sort of news as this is the only school I applied to...bold and rather stupid of me I know.

hi!

the deadline hasn't passed yet, so I don't think they will contact anyone regarding an interview until after March 1st. According to their website, interviews will be mid-April.

Thank you! Got your message and sent the email!

Question, I applied to Regis and got an interview for next week...do you guys think they interview everyone?

They don't interview everyone, just qualified applicants! Best of luck to you!

Thank you! I have never had an official interview before so I'm quite nervous!

The woman you'll interview with is amazing. It was my first too and it's a great place to have it at. Dont stress!

I'm so happy that everyone is starting to hear back from schools! :) Does anyone know what's going on with UMass Worcester (Medical School)? I know they're on rolling admissions, so maybe the class is already full? But I have no clue since I haven't heard anything at all from them...

Some people have heard from UMass (I haven't yet). Search the site for Pro Con UMass Worcester. There is a pretty good thread there with information.

I got an acceptance to Simmons on Saturday so I'm pretty happy about that!

Hello!

I've been reading this blog for a while, but have never posted. I am currently trying to make a decision about whether or not I am going to put down a deposit at Simmons. (I am waiting for other schools, but they won't notify me until after the deposit at Simmons is due)

I have been waitlisted for FNP at BC and am waiting to hear from Johns Hopkins, Northeastern, and several second degree BSN programs.

I am struggling because I am concerned about Simmons and BC not providing a BSN in their programs. Do any of you have any input regarding whether or not a BSN is necessary once you have a MSN? I have a bachelor of arts degree, but am concerned I will have trouble progressing in my career if I have a MSN but no BSN. What have you all who are considering these programs learned about this?

Thank you for your help!

ktbelle - I don't think most programs provide the BSN - the only one I looked at was, I think, Columbia (I'm going for CNM).

From talking to people who are currently in a program in Chicago / have graduated from it, they say that not having the BSN can be hard to get hired if you're expecting to work part-time while you do the Master's portion. Once you have the MSN / NP licensure, I haven't heard of it mattering. If you're planning to do the MSN full time immediately after the BSN, I wouldn't think that would be too much of a problem - but a lot of people tell me that doing an accelerated BSN then a Master's doesn't take that much more time than doing a combined program, so maybe that's the best route for you!

Thank you, bbcc! I appreciate your help!
