Direct Entry MSN Programs 2013

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Anyone on here applying to direct entry MSN programs that begin in summer or fall of 2013? I think I have finalized my list of programs to apply to, and I am beginning to get everything together to start applying this summer/early fall (I know this is rather early, but I'm a bit anxious and I was wondering if there was anyone else on this board who is just as excited as me!). I am pretty certain that I will be applying to UPenn, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Northeastern, University of Massachusetts, Boston College, Columbia, Vanderbilt, and Marquette. I am also applying to a few accelerated BSN programs in my state (Florida) - UCF and UF, for sure. I have all of my prerequisite courses completed, and currently have a 3.76, but my BS is still in progress and I have to retake the GRE this summer. I look forward to hearing from other people!

I heard that some have already gotten rejections from BC. But I heard from admissions by the end of the month...

I got into Marquette and was waitlisted at Penn! Did anyone else get into Marquette?

Can anyone share about Marquette's program?

Anyone hear about when simmons or NEU is releasing their decisions?

I just got a letter from Simmons (via Fedex) with a huge merit scholarship... which really throws a wrench in my plans since I thought I had my mind made up. They want a deposit by February 26th, which is so soon!

Congrats!!! That must mean all letters are on the way seeing as how they said they send them as a group! Do u live close to Boston?

Thank you! And yes I live right in Boston. The label says it was sent yesterday priority overnight. Hopefully you will hear good news soon!

Thanks! I hope so too! I'm so bummed one of my recs got lost in the mail...wish they did online recs like everywhere else! So my app was "late" doesn't effect my chances just can't get a entry merit scholarship...but then again I just hope I get in haha

I am interested in being a pediatric NP but working in a hospital setting, not primary care.

Not many schools (except UPENN, where I didn't get in) have specific pediatric acute care NP programs so I applied for pediatrics for some schools (MGH, BC, Regis) and acute care for some (Yale, Johns Hopkins, Vanderbilt, Northeastern, UMass Worcester). I'm in to MGH, was told "probably" for Yale, and am waiting on the rest. Is anyone in the same boat as me or have suggestions as to the best schools for what I'm going for?? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

What are everyone's thoughts about the rankings? Does the ranking of the program really matter?????

If it's between 9 and 11, probably not. If it's between 2 and 50, it probably does. A degree is a degree, but the name recognition will help get you jobs, and the actual education you get will be invaluable. Rankings don't mean everything, but they do mean something, and generally speaking, I think you can assume you'll get a better education and thus be a better prepared NP at a higher ranked school vs. a lower ranked school - which isn't to say you'll get a bad education at the last-ranked FNP school in the country, necessarily, but the opportunities and resources available to you at the #1 are unparalleled.

I got into BC!
