I'm currently in the NNP program...

I entered as a traditional MSN student, not ETP, although I have several classmates that went the ETP route...

How do you & they like it? Do you know what I need in terms of GPA to be accepted?

I can't speak to what they require for the ETP program. I had a 3.7 for my BSN. I like it. The class size is small (3-7) and the two NNP professors are EXCELLENT.

I am doing it part time and it works well. I'm busy, but I can at least still work FT.

The NNP specialty isnt that hard to get into, IMHO, because not too many people apply. they have room for 12 students, but have never had that many.

Did everyone who applied to Columbia ETP get an email from Oscar suggesting you complete your FAFSA? I'm sure we all did, but i'm just curious.... anxiously awaiting!!

yep! from what i've seen of previous threads, this is a standard email that gets sent to all applicants. after hearing virtually nothing from columbia for over a month, it is exciting to hear something.

Hi all,

I'm not sure how I missed this thread during all of my time on AllNurses...but I finally found you all! I applied to the Columbia ETP program for NNP (Rush, and UIC too) and I'm very much on pins and needles. I am currently a dependent but I won't be when (if? eh!!) I enroll at Columbia, but the FAFSA forms keep telling me that I'm a dependent and that I need to give my family's financial info. Any ideas on how to circumvent this?
GOOD LUCK!

The feds are kind of black and white around the whole dependent thing. And financial aid is based on the previous years tax return, so i believe even if you become independent before May, they're going to base your aid package on the 2008 tax info.. Sucks i know! I really got screwed because i started undergrad at 23, and the first year had to use my parents info...i didn't have any luck with fighting them on it, even though i'd been living alone and supporting myself for five years.

Anyway - i hope that's not the case, but i seem to remember being in a similar boat without much success. Hope it turns out better for you!
