California Baptist University ELM Summer 2015

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hey guys,

I wanted to start a new thread for CBU's ELMSN program. Who is all applying and how are you doing with the apps?

Good Luck

Hello! I applied for the CBU ELMSN program for the Summer 2015 start as well. Have you heard anything about interviews? Getting nervous!

Hello

finally I got a comment yay yay lol. I didn't think anybody knew about this thread. It's good to know :cat:.i wonder how many people apply for this cohort. I barely turned in my conduct clearance forms cause it was hassle getting schools to sign them since this is new to them. Are you applying to any other programs? How did you do on the pax/GRE? I'm a little nervous too, but I used to go to CBU back in 2009, but I regretfully left there to attend to a public school and I really hope, I can be back in my home school. :-)

also ,last I heard, the committee interview invites would go out toward the end of this month til early February. Good luck to you :-)

I just barely started looking for nursing forums for the schools I applied to and this is the only one I could find for CBU! Okay good, I was getting so nervous about the interview invites! I remember writing down things at the applicant workshop and my notes say interviews mid-late January so I wasn't sure if that meant they were sending out invites then or if they were actually conducting interviews then. :) And yes there were so many things to turn in...many many many more things than other schools!

And yes! I applied to UCLA's MECN, APU's ELM (recently got a rejection letter ), Concordia's ABSN, CBU's ELMSN, and to CSU Bakersfield and CSU Fresno (traditional BSN programs). So basically only places in southern California. Where have you applied??

I didn't take the GRE but I took the PAX at CBU and got 160, how about you?

I am so nervous! I don't think that my grades are "great", and my GPA is on the low end. I just hope I went the right direction with my personal statement. I went to the applicant workshop and there were about 40-50 people there (I think?). There might have been people who just couldn't go, so who knows! But it made me feel a lot better than there being 150 there!

I just got an email from cbu saying that my application is complete and under reiew. Eekkkkk. I went to am info session around july snd there were like 12 of us there, thats a big difference then hundreds of people lolol. With their new Nursing building, I hope the acceptance rate increases. From what I recall, their bsn, program started accepting more applicants than ever and part of me wish i was still a student there. Life and finances got in the way, but hopefully we will get in this time. I took both the gre and the pax. The pax i got like an 85:-/ and i didn't do so hot on the gre. These standardized are killers and i prolly should avoid being up so late studying for them lol. My gpa is like barely above the minimum, but they take last 60/90 units so you should be fine. 160 wow we that's an awesome score how did you study for the pax so well? Darn me lol

Seriously, their application was the mossstttt tedious one ever, i barely sent over my last conduct clearance form last week. In comparison to other nursing programs, they were asking the most lol.

I applied to ucla mecn, hopkins, u of rochester, cbu, and i will be applying to concordia absn for fall 2015. I also got denied at apu(deja vu right), u of a, and ucsf . I already interviewed at both Rochester and apu. Which campus in apu did you apply for?

I use to attend csub from 2010-2012 lol, it is so darn hott and be prepare for that and the winter brrrrrrrr lol. The nursing program is really good, it's kind of small, but the graduates wind up getting jobs way quicker than most csus. The nursing employment out there is far more better than socal, and the job security is reasonable :-).

I think we might end up being classmates, let's hope for the best. Did you receive the email from CBU? If you want to, since I can't pm you I can give you my email address so we can keep in contact my email is [email protected], I mean I am happy that someone found this thread cause not many folks know about CBU :-).

No I haven't gotten any emails since 12/19 which was the reminder to send in updated transcripts. :/ And yeah I remember when I went to my info session there about about 12-15 people there as well and I think I remember them saying that they were looking into increasing the number of seats. And dont fret! I didnt study for the PAX, but my degree is in Biology so most of the science and math stuff I use on a daily basis so it was really familiar to me. But they said that the average accepted PAX score is much lower than that so don't worry! My GPA is also barely above the minimum so we'll just have to cross our fingers! Hopefully other people find this thread so we can get some more info!

Ahh when I heard from APU I was SO discouraged! It is my greatest fear that I won't be accepted anywhere and that I'll have to wind up using my bachelors and doing something I don't want to. :( I applied for the main campus at APU, so I've just been telling myself that they probably received a ton of apps there and that was why I was weeded out. I had a phone interview and it was the first interview I've done so I was super nervous and feel like I screwed it up.

I actually grew up in Bakersfield! :) I'm using CSUB as a sort of fall-back route so I could always go there and live at home, but I'd rather go an accelerated route like the entry level masters of accelerated bachelors.

Hey,

From what I 've heard they usually get around 80 apps for 40 spots, but definitely would help all of us if they increase the number of seats, since 2009, CBU has made major changes to their campus and the enrollment has increased by alot, and I hope this increase can increase our chances of getting in.

Your biology degree is pretty much the good luck charm :sneaky:. Really you've heard lower scores, I bought the study guide, but i foolishly studied the last minute and I didnt sleep the night before :-/.

Also, I have even spoken to some of CBU ELM students, and they in fact were rejected from APU, so do no need to worry, I mean its a great school, but what percentage of their students actually stick it out. Thats i like CBU better because they look at you as a whole person, you know. I've been turned down by them and I knew it was because the applicant pool was so competitive and I turned mines the last minute. Also, I applied for the San Diego campus, which by far is the most competitive. That's cool that your going the ABSN/ELM route, did you take the teas yet?

Please do not feel discouraged, your degree relates well with nursing, you can do this. CBU sent me an email today saying my app is complete and is under review. They will be emailing interview invites on an ongoing basis until february 28th. If you dont hear by the 28th then it means you might have been rejected, which we hope is not the case:no: . I hope more people find this thread too, I am glad it's finally still alive after all lolol.

My degree didnt get posted on time so thats whats delaying my admissions:no:. APU takes three times a year so I'm not so sure if I even want to apply next cycle. Are you going to reapply?

Oh wow thats awesome, why do I feel like I know you but I dont lolol. I transferred to CSUB after I left CBU. BIG BIG MISTAKE. I mean their nursing program is great, I thought I had it out, but going from sem to qtr system was very difficult and I just could not grasp the curriculum as well as I did in CBU. The nursing jobs are always available, and if I get into this program, I would not mind working at mercy, san joaquin hospital just to gain the experience.

The best part about CSUB is meeting my soon to be husband, whom I met there and, we are approaching our 4th year anniversary :-). I do remember some good parts of Bako and the sketchy parts of Bako lol. I do miss Dewars ice cream and some of the downtown area. Which part did you grow up in?

Oh wow! I heard that 250 applied in 2012 and 2013, so I hope you're right! It really sucks that these programs are so competitive and draw so much interest but offer so few spots. :( And yes! I think they said the average accepted score for the PAX was around 100, but I can't remember exactly. And yes, I took the teas in mid-December, have you taken it? I'm not sure if I want to apply to APU again, do you know which campus is least competitive? Do you know when the next app for them is due?

Yes, the quarter system is so accelerated and difficult, I felt like I barely survived four quarters of it! And congratulations to you on your engagement! I grew up in Rosedale and went to Liberty High School. After going to college in LA I definitely missed the wide open spaces, parking, people with integrity, and cost of living back in Bakersfield, haha. How about you!

ooh really, I think CBU is the least known out of all the gazillion program. when I attended to info session, about 80 or so apply, but lets hope its less so we can get in. The pax exam was no joke, I knew I should have studied much earlier and it sucks because you can only take it once:-/. 100 is a good score, now I really think mines was put to shame lol. They emailed me a few days ago to confirm my completed application. I do not need to take the teas because the programs I'm applying too do not require them. From what I was told, the IE is less competitive, but what I what I was told the applicants either had a super high 3.0 or more volunteer experiences which hurts a soul.

Quarter system is no joke, its like you do it or you fail lolol. Alot of the nursing programs that I've applied to are all semester except UCLA lol. Aww thanks, yeah thats one of the best perks of bako. I know Rosedale, so you lived north, kind of near alot of shopping centers, oil mills, I've seen Liberty High School, very nice, it's nice to see bako peeps . OMG seriously, the best COL, like literally like if you want niceeee houses, its like dirttt cheapp and thats whats up lol. Have you been to Oildale, Chester, ave, I was told to avoid at all costs ;). Bako is growing sporadically, and my former colleagues of mines have not encounter the issues of getting RN jobs.

It may be 50/50 chance that ill apply to APU, their next cycle is spring 16 and the app is due in march, hopefully I dont have to pay, cause these things are so expensive sheeezzz. we still in a recession...

What happen to UCLA last year? I'm sorry about the outcome, I am applying as well and am pretty nervous because UCLA is extremely selective on their candidates and the SOP weighs in super heavily.

I just got an email invitation to interview today. yayyyyy I hope to see you there :-)

Just got mine too! So relieved and excited! Now to stress about what to wear and what they will ask us! haha :nailbiting::up:

OMG congrats I was so scared I would not get in considering my scores, this is my third interview and I will definitely prepare this time. I already bought some dress pants but I might buy more hahahahaha. I want to look as neat as possible for the interview :-). What day are you going? We will be fine, I heard from friends in their BSN program and they said the questions they got was why do want to be a nurse? why CBU? things to that extent
