Applying to the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hello to all!

I have applied to join class 69 (starting August 2009) of the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing. I sent in the application in March, had my phone interview two weeks ago, and I have my fingers crossed waiting to hear if I have been accepted. I am staying optimistic. Anyone else also waiting for a reply from the school, or anyone who has already heard that they will be attending? Would love to hear from you!

I don't think you need to be nervous. I was told they automatically take everyone that meets the minimum requirements. The only reason you would require review is if you fell under those, and then you may still get in, it just isn't a sure thing. I was told the classes fill us first come first serve, so if you were a later applicant, you may be deferred to a later session. The fact that they are not "selective" is not at all a reflection on the quality of the program. They are able to accomodate so many students b/c of their rolling format. Also, they do not hesitate to hold back or dismiss students that don't make the grade. Every single person I have spoken to about that program has raved about it, the faculty and it's graduates.

I really considered Frontier very strongly. The Frontier bound week looks awesome; I have not seen any other distance prgram go to such lengths to help students assimilate and bond. I hope I don't regret not going there, but in the end, it is easier to go to the school that is a few miles from home!

Good luck!

I sent in all of my application materials and had my phone interview...I am so excited to be embarking on this journey! Hopefully I will see you at Frontier Bound in Sept. :)

I was told they automatically take everyone that meets the minimum requirements.

I have been accepted to Class of 67, and will be at Frontier Bound in June :D. During my interview I inquired about the acceptance rate, and was told its about 60%. And that for the June class there were 15 CNM and 15 FNP spots available. I was fortunate to be one of the 15 selected, but based on this I have to disagree with the above post that everyone is accepted. The person interviewing me explained that they are limited by the amount of space they have on campus for each Frontier Bound group, and that when combined with the Bridge-Program the June class would be one of the largest they could handle.

Best of luck to you, and I hope you hear back soon!

Hi,

I just got my app in...I have not had my phone interview yet. Do I call to schedule it? How soon will I get it? Hope I get in for 69!

I have heard nothing but GOOD things about Frontier and it's not too far of a drive for me (about 14 hours each way) so it's doable. It's the only school I plan on applying to.

If I may ask, what were your qualifications and experience, and what was the phone interview like?

Thanks! Lets keep this thread active.

"I have to disagree with the above post that everyone is accepted."

I wasn't trying to give anyone misinformation. Merely relaying information given to me by whomever that ws that answered the phone in admissions. I just took her at her word. She qualified it by saying that you may well be defered to a later group than you had in mind, but she clearly said "if an applicant meets the requirements, s/he will be admitted." FWIW.

Good luck to everyone!

I have just decided to start pursuing Frontier for my MSN. I'm so nervous about going back to school. I'll be doing the RN-MSN tract. I have an ADN. That was alot of hard work and sacrifice, although my kids were younger. I also am nervous about being able to do a Masters level program. I would love to hear from everyone what their experiences have been with interviewing and studying with Frontier! Keep in touch...Thanks!

From the research I put in, the posts and reviews, this is undoubtedly one of the finest APN programs out there. This would have been my first choice, but I was a bit creeped out about doing pelvic exams on one another. I've since learned that students can decline this now so its not really a factor.

Connie:

I've applied, too! For the same class! I don't think we'll hear until after June 1st. Let's hope and pray!

All the best!
