Applying to the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing?

Hello to all,
I have gotten such great info from this site since joining a few months ago, but this is my very first post. Congrats to all in this thread who will be attending Frontier this Fall. I researched NP programs prior to applying a few months ago. Came across frontier, was impressed by all the great reviews, and posts but decided on a program closer to home. Well to my HORROR 3 days ago I received a rejection letter when I met all of the requirements except the minimum GRE requirement (I was 50 points below the requested). I did not retake it as I was advised not to by one of the schools advisors due to the fact that I had a 3.9 GPA upon receiving my BSN, 14 years nursing experience, especially in areas that they desired (Hospital and Intensive care) and 3 stellar recommendations. So again to my horror I didn't get in; so now that I'm done crying I am trying to find "the blessing in this dissapointment". The first thing that came to mind was that I some what diverted from my passion when I decided to go the FNP route. My true love and passion is Women's health. It's were my heart is. I decided on the FNP for reasons having to do with marketability, the economy, and my research of the local job market (North West Atlanta). So just trying to figure out right now if this is divine intervention redirecting me to the area that I'm supposed to be working in. Of my 14 years the first 9 were spent in Women's Health. Well I don't really have a question per se; just needed to vent a bit I guess. I am seriously contemplating applying to Frontier before the next August deadline for sesssion 71 or 72 (I think that's right for Dec. 09) So If I do apply, and God willing, get accepted Maybe I will come across some of you all during the course of the program. Thanks in advance for the ears and any words of encouragement!!

Hugs! That is Horrible, Yucky tears and shake that off. Well can we just say forget them? Can we say that? Frontier is about serendipity they say! Do apply! I am accepted for the 70 CNEP (midwife or bust).

Hello. Well I just experienced your HORROR. I applied to another FNP program, not Frontier. It was similar in that it was a long distance program, and I was so hopeful. I received my rejection letter today. I was accepted to Duke University, but I did not want to relocate, so I was so hoping. I thought I would apply to one top tier school and then a good long distance program. When Duke said yes, I was just so hoping. Well guess I am back to square one. I am thinking about applying to Frontier. Now I am so gun shy. Well going to go have my cry and I will figure it out. However, your email and cheerful attitude there after gave me encouragement.

So sorry to hear about your disappointment but like my Granny used to say "In every disappointment is a blessing". I believe that! I'm searching for mine and I encourage you to look for yours in there too! Glad I could send out a positive word or vibe to someone else experiencing the same kind of heartbreak. My best friend is a CNM and just called me with a program that one of her colleagues is attending right now. It is through the "University of Cincinnati". She is doing a dual CNM/WHNP program via distance learning. If you're interested the website is uc.edu. Hey you never know. I hear there are no residencies or campus visits with this program. You guys will be fine. And you can focus on starting in January. I truly believe that you will get something better. I remember when I was finished with all my prerequisites for nursing school I applied to my local community college, (High GPA, Previous BA degree, excellent recommendations) and got rejected. I was incredibly devastated. Even my director called to find out why I was not accepted. I had also applied to an accelerated BSN program but did not expect anything. In the end they gave me one of 30 spots and I was able to excel in that program and take a grad research course in my final semester that was AWESOME!!!!
So one tragedy can really be a pathway toward a great blessing!

You know, this may be a blessing in disguise. I have been accepted for the FNP program at Frontier. I could have gone to a local school, but Frontier drew me. The energy and passion of this school is palpable and I haven't even gone to Frontier Bound yet! So, apply NOW. To me, it sounds like you have the crendentials and passion to be accepted! Go to the school site now, download the application and get going! Maybe we'll meet up someday! Frontier really encourages bonding and connections...and, isn't that what this life is all about?

Grrr, my last post was lost, I think. I was wondering if there is anyone who would like to take my Class 69 slot and I will take your Class 70 slot at Frontier.I am jubilant over getting in, but have a little problem. My niece, Sarah, is 3 years post surgery, chemo and proton beam radiation for a very rare cancer...an esthesioneuroblastoma. She is in nursing school! Sarah has to have surgery and I want to be there for my sister and Sarah (my sister, her mom, is also a nurse). Mass General is about 3 hours away. If I could switch, then I could be there for Sarah and my sister. If not, I will be there in spirit and just pray a lot.

Thank you all for such kind words. I checked on the Univ. of Cinn. and they are not accepting any new applications for the program.

I will definitely apply to Frontier. Are there any other quality, accredited Post-Masters FNP that are distance learning format for clinicals?

Thank you so much. I looked up Duke and they are one of the top 5 nursing schools and I should be very proud. However, I cannot relocate at this time for school. So I gave up my slot at Duke. That should make someone really happy on the waiting list. I hoped I gave someone some sunshine, as I hope someday soon. I was so hoping to begin a program this fall. Guess not. I will try for the next semester.

Any recommendations for good FNP distance learning programs is sincerely appreciated. And the best of luck and congrats to the new Frontier graduates!

You might want to check out RUSH university in Chicago, IL. I know an awesome NP,(now DNP) that did her training there. She is now an instructor at Univ of Iowa. I also know of Clarkson College in Omaha, NE. I have another friend that went there and is now a DNP in psych. Hope that helps!
