Anyone know about Maryville's FNP program?

I am writing to see if anyone has attended or heard good things about Maryville University's FNP program? They are starting a new online FNP program next year, but am kind of leery because I am not able to find much about the program. Also, does anyone know where I might find FNP certification pass rates per university?

I think that my undergraduate loans are under $48,000.

The total/maximum of loans that students can take out including both undergrad and graduate loans is $138,000. If your total undergraduate loans are only $48,000 then you are very fortunate and have nothing whatsoever to worry about !!!!!

Ok, I'm currently in the program (2nd course 1st semester) and not very happy. Theoretical Foundations in Nursing (1st course) was very difficult and the terrible book did not help--I had to purchase a second theory book just so I could understand the material. There are no lectures so you basically learn on your own and from your group. I think approximately 5-6 people dropped the course prior to the 6th week. The course load is extremely difficult, sometimes you may have several papers due each weekend and each paper averages 3-5 pages. There is also group work and class discussions due every week. You are told to plan on 17 hours of study a week-- well, I don't know where they came up with that answer. I spent all my time off basically reading, researching, or writing.

The second course,Research, I thought was going to be a little easier, but I was wrong. There are less papers due each week and the reading is less, but the assignments are very time consuming. Again, no lectures just reading and group work. Just starting the 5th week of this course and 5 people have already dropped.

Not trying to dissuade anyone; I plan to try to "stay the course" myself, but it's difficult. I don't want everyone thinking this is a walk in the park, because it's not.

From looking at the curriculum, the first 5 courses appear to be for the MSN component; seems intense. Then the advanced courses begin. I hope that I make it through while working (M-Th).

After setting up your email account were you able to log in to the Student Orientation the same day?

I work 3 12 hour shifts and struggle sometimes (some weeks have a heavier workload). I think there are people working mon-fri just be prepared to study during your evenings. There is a lot of reading during the 1st course. Some weeks you may have up to 5 chapters (and this is VERY difficult reading) so get the book early and start now ( in my theoretical course we had to read the 1st 5 chapters in week one) Trust me, some of the chapters you will have to read twice if not more to understand them. So get started now.

I think the first 4 courses are just general MSN courses. I started in May and hopefully will be taking pathophysiology in Spring.

Yes after setting up my email account I was able to access the classroom/student orientation that same day as far as I remember.....are you having any trouble? If so contact the help-desk and they will straighten it out for you !

People really agitate me when they dismiss online nursing programs as if they are too easy and the degrees are 'given away to the public.' This work is hard and requires persistent dedication to get through the program. I am dedicated and will give my all to get this done. I am so glad that you were here to provide more insight.....

Thank you so much for your response. you have been such a true blessing to us. i have been so apprehensive and curious of how the format and workload will be. we havent heard from anyone in the first cohort, they have been so secretive and havent been sharing. well this week i will purchase my books and start reading.
