Anyone applying to UAB MSN program?

Hey just wondering if anyone is applying to UAB's MSN program. I'm applying to their FNP program, but still unsure as to whether or not i'm making the right decision about school choice. I'm specifically wondering about the time commitment. I work full-time and am wondering if I would still be able to keep my full-time job and do the distance learning format full-time as well. Also, cost is a major issue to me as my husband is racking up a gizzion dollars in dental school loans. Any info would be awesome.

I went to the bank I use; they have several notaries. She notarized the copy of RN license and BLS (one page) after I presented my driver's license to verify my identity...My local UPS store has a notary as well.

At my facility, the human resources person and several of the medical records personnel are notaries.

Jsoupy, I just found out one of the adm personnel at my clinic notarizes. yay!

I guess no one else is CNS.

I received a denial letter that said my application is now inactive and I can reactivate it for spring admission. They would not tell me why my application was denied so why would I defer my application for spring so they can deny me again? I'm so frustrated I could scream. Just 2-3wks ago, I received an email from the admissions coordinator requesting a copy of my social security card. Initially I thought it was a scam email but I called the gentleman directly (using the contact info from UAB's website) and he confirmed the email and told me to look forward receiving my "acceptance package" after the holiday. Now I find out I've been denied admission/inactive or whatever they want to call it. My last 60 credit hour GPA is 3.6 and I have 7 yrs of critical care experience, TNCC and CCRN certifications. I had recommendation letters from my Phd nursing professor, our unit intensivist and unit CNS.

I don't know what to do. I actually cried and I've been so stressed out I've continued to battle some serious nausea. I guess I'll have to apply to some PA programs. I just hate that I won't be able to work during those programs which means a lot more debt.

I'm so sorry you didn't get in CCRNDiva. Can you call the guy who requested your SSN and ask him for more info? Seems strange they would ask for that and then just deny you. I would also try to find out if you have a better chance of getting in if you reapply in the spring. I have a friend at work who applied to a local school and was told that she wouldn't get in for fall because they had an unofficial waiting list of all of the people they had denied admission to for the last semester. She didn't want to wait a year to start, so she is going to a different school, but if UAB is doing something like this and you don't get into the other schools it might be worth reapplying. You also might want to find out how many people applied for your specialty and how many got in. I know it has been posted on here before that preference is given to in state applicants, since it is a state school. Maybe they had enough strong AL applications that they didn't need to admit out of state.

I know it is hard, but try to not take it personally. This has no bearing on how well you would do as an NP. It is just very competitive to get in right now and every year seems to get worse (at least while people can still finish before 2015). Don't get discouraged, so many people are in the same situation right now. An option a friend did is she is going to get her MSN in education, because those programs still have spots and then do the 1 year post-masters FNP once she's done. Her school has it set up so she can go straight from one program to the next. It will take her an extra year, but she will have two degrees in the end and more job possibilities. Where there's a will there's a way!

Diva, don't feel bad. I think I could potentially be in the same boat. I haven't received any mail yet and I don't think the old saying no news in good news in true in applying for NP school. I am post-master's...but still. This is tough and you'll just have to keep trying for spring. When did you get your letter? Good luck with future endeavors though!

Thanks so much for the words of encouragement; I really needed to hear them:redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe.

Annaiya- I sent an email to him and I left him a voicemail. I managed to speak to someone else in admissions but she couldn't give a reason for denial. Hopefully I'll get some clarification regarding reapplying for spring admission. I do think being out of state and living in the midwest hurt me. I don't know if they have any contracts set up in this area.

Mandyr220- I received the letter yesterday. I hope you hear good news soon!!

Thanks again for the encouraging words. They really helped!!

Don't get down on yourself yet...The deadline to accept for the fall is the 22nd and I know of at least one spot that will be opening up!

CCRNDiva, hang in there. I've often found that in life, the set backs that hurt the most make us stronger and more capable of going into our future with a renewed perserverence to make our dreams come true. As long as this is your dream and you believe in yourself, you will see it realized one day. Know that just being who you are and doing what you do is amazing to a lot of people that rely on us to care for them. Keep your chin up and don't give up. The nursing profession needs passionate and dedicated nurses like yourself to take nursing to the next level so take this as a small set back and keep moving forward until you achieve your dream.;)
