Re: Any UCSF Mepn Applicants?
[quote=bambou]Interesting discussion on this forum and congratulations to everybody who was accepted!
I will apply to the MEPN program at UCSF this year. Do you have any advice regarding the application process?
I have a Bachelors in anthropology. Do you know a lot of people with a background not in health care, biology or others?
I am a native french speaker. Do you know a lot of people in the program who speak english as a second language? Is a disadvantage?
Hi Melody,
My undergrad was in criminal justice so at least your degree is one of the sciences, : ) Having any language is a bonus, and with french I would maybe take some spanish classes if you have time. You will pick it up quickly and having spanish on your application will help more than french. I would also do volunteer work somewhere. I think it shows two things: one you are compassionate, and two you understand what you are getting yourself into. I was surprised by how many of my fellow students in the prerequisite classes were not doing any volunteer work, don't know if they got interviews or not. Volunteering does not have to be the huge commitment that some people think it is. I do three hours a week at an emergency department and that is it. It is a great way to meet nurses, physician assistants, doctors etc., observe what they really do, and see if you really want to deal with it. The prerequisite classes were the log-jam for me as the classes fill up so fast, at least in the community colleges. Hope this helps, and good luck to you!
