Any Fall '07 CSULB EL-MSN applicants???

by nskoog

I haven't noticed any threads for the Cal-State Long Beach Entry-level MSN for Fall 2007. I was just wondering if there was anyone else out there? I got word today that letters would be sent out the second week of May....

Hi nskoog! I've applied for CSULB's program for Fall 2007. Eek...mid-May is so far off, huh? Do you know if that's the latest or when they'll actually send the letters out? I found out that orientation is supposed to be June 1st so it would only give us minimum 2 weeks from finding out we're in to really deciding we're attending.

Well I talked to Monalisa Ward last week and asked her when we would be receiving notifications and she said she would try her hardest for the first week of May, but most likely they wouldn't be out until the second week..She had to wait for everyone's paperwork that was postmarked by the 15th...

Did you apply anywhere else?

Yea, I also applied to UCLA and Western U. But CSULB would be so ideal because it's affordable, and I could live at home while going to school.

CSUF's program looks pretty good since students have specialization options for the post-Masters. Unfortunately, I didn't apply to either CSUF or CSULA because I didn't know they had EL-MSN programs until after the deadlines had passed! I wish I had known earlier though because I'd be saving so much time with not having to re-apply to post-master's certificate programs

Post-Masters? Will that be during the second half of the EL-MSN or following completion of the EL-MSN program?

The reason I'm asking is, I'll be applying to both Fullerton and CSULB and I'm wondering if LB will be offering specialization options too. It sounds like a great opportunity! Any idea what those options would be in either school?

Thank you in advance!

I don't know about CSUF since I didn't apply there. But as it stands now at CSULB, you work towards both a MSN and Clinicial Nurse Specialist in Adult Acute Care during the second half of the ELM program. I will be a CSULB ELM student starting this fall, and during the orientation, the director for our program actually revealed that they were working on creating another specialty option for us. She said that it was going to be Nurse Practitioner (I can't remember if she specified if it was FNP or WNP), but I'm thrilled that we'll have the choice for whatever specialty we want.

Hope this helps!

I chose to start the program this fall at CSUF and there are several routes (Nurse Practioner) that we can pursue after completion of the EL-MSN. There is nurse anesthetist, FNP, WNP, Midwife, and a nurse administration option.

hello nskoog,

do u know if the option still holds true? I know that since Fullerton is such a new program, a lot of things keep changing. I just wanted to know if you had inquired about this option recently because I don't recall Mary ever mentioning this option to me. Thanks!

Hi nskoog,

Just curious, may I ask why you chose CSUF? Was it over CSULB? I'm torn in pursuing either school. I don't know which has a better rep in cranking out good nurses.

Hello drkentrystudent,

I've been told a couple of times that we will have the option of choosing a "route" after completion of the MSN portion. There are still three years until we even get there so I'm sure everything will be planned out before then!
