Hello, I am a MSN nurse who currently functions in a clinical outcomes RN role at my facility. I am looking to further advance my degree with an end goal to become nurse faculty at a school of nursing. My question becomes, what would be the best degree to pursue to become a nurse faculty member and why?
Thanks in advance!
Well, if you already hold the MSN, the only option to further your degree would be a doctorate. In the schools in my area, only those holding a doctorate are eligible for tenure.

The obvious answer is "doctorate" -- with the only real question of whether you want a DNP or PhD. Given your stated goals as getting an academic job, and your likelihood of having a research career, I'd say a that a PhD sounds most suited to you.
What other options were you considering?
