ABSN/Direct Entry 2014 Applicants

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Hey y'all!

Anyone out there excited for the 2013-2014 application cycle to start? So many programs to look into! :)

I was under the impression that did conducted interviews. I personally know two friends that graduated from the ABSN portion that sated to me they had a session with the program admission director. But thanks for the info @ hope!

Any who, misssummer I would always call or go in person for current information. I'm sure things have changed since I graduated!

Again good luck, to all!

I'm almost 99% positive that the ABSN program at UF no longer conducts interviews... I have about 5 friends who applied and they only submitted GRE scores and an essay (they were all current UF students so they didn't have to submit transcripts).

Is anyone else a bit confused about the CNL versus MSN programs? Some of the schools closer to me offer only CNL, but I am pretty sure I am more interested in an MSN degree. But, if we all end up with entry level positions anyways, what is the big difference that HR hiring managers note when deciding whether to hire a CNL or a MSN?

Legal->Nurse (btw, I was going to go to law school before switching to nursing!)

Direct-entry CNL is a master's prepared RN. So with that MSN you would work at the bedside. I chose ABSN instead of the direct-entry CNL only because ABSN programs are shorter. But the nice thing about direct-entry CNL programs is that if you choose to become a nurse practitioner you can do a post-master's certificate to do that (most of the time).

You'll have to check with hospitals around you and how familiar they are with direct entry CNLs. You wouldn't be hired right off as a CNL, just as an RN.

I am about to start nursing at UF in the ABSN class of 2014. UF no longer conducts interviews. The requirements for admission can be found on their website. Good luck! Application Process » Nursing Admissions » College of Nursing » University of Florida

hey gatorgirl13! do you have any advice on applying to UF or know what made you stand out as an applicant? Good luck with the program! :)

Hi all - I was wondering if you all could give me some advice. My ultimate goal is to be a NP and I will apply to Direct Entry programs this fall. I am graduating from undergrad in May 2014 with a degree in Public Health. I have experience studying healthcare abroad, I've interned for a public health organization for the past year, and plan to shadow a NP this fall. Currently I have a 3.4GPA. I am still working on finishing the prerequisites - I will be taking Statistics in the fall and will most likely take A&P and Microbiology in the summer of 2014 (I don't have room in my schedule to take them in the Spring). I'm planning on applying to Direct Entry programs at Northeastern, Columbia, Vanderbilt, Emory, MGH Institute, Pace, and Marquette. Do you all think that my lack of prerequisites completed will hinder my application? Is it worth it to give it a try and apply this year? Any advice is appreciated - there is no nursing program at my college and my pre-health advisor has very little knowledge on direct entry nursing programs, so I am pretty much all alone here.

Just found out I got an interview for UPenn's BSN/MSN FNP program!

Hey everyone! I'm currently applying for next fall and spring. I'm just wondering how everyone is paying for these programs? They are quite costly and financial aid doesn't cover the entire cost... feeling a little discouraged.
