Nursing Students Post Graduate
Published Aug 2, 2013
Hey everyone! Given that applications are due a month from today, I figured it was about time to start a thread. How are everyone's personal statements and applications coming?

Anybody submit their app yet?? Still revising my personal history statement... My GRE scores still don't show as received even though they show as delivered on 8/21. Just to verify, we can provide unofficial transcripts until they request official ones, right?

Yep, you can provide unofficial transcripts for now, but you should send in the official ones as soon as possible.
I hear it's not recommended to go over two pages for the goal statement, so I'm still in the process of cutting mine down.
Good luck everyone!!

I am still trying to cut my goal statement down to two pages! I'm usually a very concise writer so I've never had this problem before. Eek! My application says that my GRE scores have not been received either, but I remember reading somewhere on a previous thread that they update that information after the application is locked..?
As for the transcripts, I'm pretty sure you were supposed to send them in without waiting for UCSF to request them. The application says, "Your application cannot be reviewed until all transcripts are received at UCSF." I'm pretty sure they mean official transcripts. So get those in STAT!

My application shows that my GRE scores were linked with my account. If you can input your confirmation/registration number from the GRE they can link it with your application faster. Definitely get your transcripts in ASAP. Will it show on our application once those have been received, does anyone know?
I am also finalizing my Personal Statement... good luck everyone!

Yes, I heard that once you lock your application, you can view a status screen for all your materials, including the transcripts.

Another question!! For your goal statement, did you limit the amount you talked about things that are also found on your experiences page? The volunteer/work experience section asks for a 750 character summary for each position, so there would be a lot of overlap between the two if you did, right?
Does the application get read in its entirety by the same person? Just don't want to be repetitive but also want my essay and experiences to compliment each other...

Hi everyone! I submitted my application last weekend for the FNP specialty! I'm so happy to have turned it in! For those of you asking, I did revisit relevant pieces of information from my Experiences section in the Personal History and Goal Statements, but still stayed true to what the prompt was asking and tried hard not to deviate from the scope of my essay. I also stayed at the 2 page mark for the Goal Statement. I'm quite nervous about the application process in its entirety. Although I am a UCSF alum and have 18 years of experience in healthcare (10 specifically in dentistry), I had a low undergraduate GPA and I am worried that will effect my progress in the application process. I'm trying to stay optimistic that my clinical experience in healthcare and the quality of my undergraduate education will be worth more than just a GPA I received 10 years ago while I was still very young, naive, and inexperienced in life. However, I do want to congratulate all of you who have submitted your applications as well! Good luck to everyone! I wish you all the very best!!! :)
Hi everyone, just submitted the application :) Someone had mentioned that once you lock and submit it that it allows you to see the status of transcript receipts and such, but I was just given a page that says
"Your Application Status: Under Review
Thank you for applying to the MEPN program at UCSF School of Nursing. Please continue to review this web site for status updates."
However, it doesn't actually allow you to see anything on that page. Any guidance on navigating that?
hi MeghanRyan! yes, I received the same page you did. I submitted mine last week and it still says "Under Review." I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I'm guessing we will get this page until all transcripts and scores are matched to our application. Maybe after this is complete we will be able to track our status through the application process. Anyone else with information on this?

Hi everyone,
I am applying to the MPEN program for this round also, AGNP conc. I too wish the ACNP specialty was open to MEPN students. But from talking with many nurses, apparently it is best for all if that specialty remains closed to newbies. By all I mean, nurses, docs and patients alike.
Now for the reason I created an account.... to share with you all this fabulous blog I found!! It's called "the one year nurse". It's the memoirs of a MEPN student and the trials and tribulations of getting your RN at warp speed. He even goes to far as to include his entire personal statement on the blog. He's a really good and funny writer. He discusses rotations. After the MEPN. It's quite informative and the posts are quite easy to read (he is hilarious). If someone has already posted this and this is a repeat, I apologize. I am new to the site. Cheers!! :)

Thanks Samdaman! Your post is so helpful! I recognize your screen name from previous threads/posts. I don't recall which specialty you applied to but would you mind sharing with us the general stats on the current class based on what you might know? In particular, are there any MEPN's in your cohort that didn't have very high GPA's or stellar GRE scores but were still able to get in based on experience? I applied to the FNP specialty. Thanks again for your help! It's greatly appreciated! :)

And the waiting begins! That's always the worst part...the long wait until interview invites go out. It's always so nice when past applicants stop by to give advice!!!
