Pediatric critical care nursing carries the broadest scope of practice of all the nursing specialties. PICU nurses care for all children from babies only hours old to teenagers in grown-up bodies, often in the same shift. These children may present with a simple problem easily treated, or multiple complex issues taking every ounce of skill to overcome.
