I totally agree. I think it's a whole lot of crap, a waste of money, time, and effort. The money spent can be used to apply elsewhere where you can actually work as a RN right away and finally starting to count your nursing experience rather than studying again.

Thought it may be useful for an update on overseas workers in the UK.

In the news today there are plans to make it even harder again for workers from outside the UK or EU to be granted work Visas to try to support the UK struggling economy

This may not concern nurses per se but I decided to share this article to warn everyone to be careful in choosing agents with whom you deal with.

2008-08-14 11:03:50 - Hundreds of Filipinos lose money as training firm closes and transfers assets

Birmingham, UK

Defunct Affinity Training's strange relationship with Wave Training revealed.

Affinity's staff suddenly left Copthall House and turned up at Brindley Place (pictured), a prestige development in the center of Birmingham, and became employed by Wave Training on the same day Affinity went into liquidation

Information for former students of Affinity Training Ltd, the college which recently went bust leaving hundreds of Filipino
students stranded in the UK and Philippines with no chance of getting their money back.

It has emerged that a number of Filipino students (who have asked not to be named) were originally told by Kirsten (website - www.kirstenrecruit.com/ ), Affinity's agency in the Philippines, that their tuition fees would be payable monthly by instalments, later received an invoice to pay the full balance after they arrived in the UK.

Ive oriented in this U.K study program thing i think its a BIG money making scam. The money that you'll be spending here is enough to take the NLCEX, IELTS or even the CRNE you'll be granted a NURSING license if you pass those exam unlike in this U.K program you'll be going back to ZERO to study again it's like downgrading you're self and doing that is basically stupid. Come to think of this if you already have a BSN degree and a Local License here in phil then why do you want to study again and waste on this crap. Don't be so desperate to gamble on this.

I am so sorry that you have had this experience but thank you so much for sharing it with other members of ths site. It is beneficial to hear from someone who has actually experienced the problems that we caution about because it gives validity to what we are saying

The UK is under a hiring freeze, pure and simple. Does not matter what any of these programs promise, the issue is that they have nothing to do with visas for start. Best you could get would be a one year special training just like one gets in the US with the student visa. But in many cases this would not work as you already hold the BSN and this program there is not for the RN either.

If you take the time to think about it, why in the world would you even consider another Bachelor's degree that will not help you in anyway get any further with visas for any country or for you to gain experience as an RN? Actually, you lose out because you will not have current work experience as an RN in the end and this will cost you dearly.

If enough of you would stop getting taken advantage of, then these programs would stop. But as long as they can make money thru scams, they will continue to do so.

You would never consider coming to the US to do a program like this, at least I hope not. So why in the world would you do it in another country, where you will only be taken advantage of?

Hello Guys,
My friend is getting into that working and studying at UK thing but i'm a little bit skeptical about it so i was trying to find any bit of information about it and i found this site from google, and as a matter of fact i found it really helpful where to start looking for some other helpful informations..

Thank you!!

and so far.. like other people said on this forum YOU CAN'T WORK in UK while having just a STUDENT VISA.. i'm from U.S. and i am pretty sure it's the same here unless it's from the school that offers u a part-time..(like librarian..etc) but only on the special occassion. And on top of that, now that we're having a GLOBAL Economic issue.. and as the news said that even UK is affected and now, they're more strict on comming into the country for their preservation concerns..So..with that fact..that made me more skeptical about this whole thing..

I'm hoping there's more information i can gather to share to my friend before she makes her move. I would really appreciate any kind of info's you can share to this matter.

so far..this is what i got..

www.kirsten-student.com/index.php

-- it's what my friend's talking about.. and as you can read they we're just talking about STUDYING and "Become a student caregiver in a UK Care Home and earn £900 a month towards your tuition, living and personal costs to help you complete your studies." hmm.. i'm not quite sure about this.. but they told my friend that THEY will ACTUALLY gonna make some money when they get there!! and oh yeah, they can pay their tuition fee installment every month..

more input is really appreaciated.. thank you

Cost of living will be high and it only says earn £900 towards tuition where is the rest going to come from. Also states it will not help you to be able to stay. Not sure why anyone would want to spend money doing a course will is aimed at the UK and will not allow you to stay afterwards. As they say most have to leave at the end of training.

hmm, for my taste it smells badly

Have you contacted the British Embassy and asked for advise??

My question, why for Gods sake would it be necessary for a RN to study 3 years to become a caregiver???
The jobs we are talking about is mostly nursing home= care of the elderly.

It says international recognation, yeah where??? I worked in 3 european countries so far, nursing home jobs are a bit different everywhere, often they use nurses some specilized in geriatrics, other have their own training. But you can always be a caregiver as an RN. You might need to update your knowledge but certainly not 3 years studying.

Costs: Have you seen that even a simple 1 day course costs 500£ ?
How much money do they want for the 3 years then???

Are you aware how many hours one has to work for those 900£? We are talking low wages here, they won't pay much. Have they said how much they pay, what kind of jobs they offer?

it stinks!
