work experience from secondary or tertiary:does it matter?

Hi! I'm just wondering..Does it matter if we gain our work experience from a secondary or tertiary hospital? Will that affect our job application abroad?I've noticed most agencies here in PI always ask if we have experience in a "tertiary hospital"....So is that really what employers in US look for?The thing is we we have limited tertiary hospitals in our city..We have secondary hospitals and I am having second thoughts submitting my application if it won't be credited in the end anyway...

most employers require working experiences from tertiary hospitals atleast 150 bed capacity above not only in US but also in other countries. so its better to apply if there is a vacancy in tertiary hospitals.

Yes you are right, this is really one of their requirements. But the fact is, in other countries, you will start from the very beginning. Then why do we have to have work experience from our own country? The answer there dear is that it is an edge that a RN already have work experience. You already have the background on how to do this and that.

Yes, it actually does matter. Agencies require someone to have an experience in a big hospital for them to get competent nurses to deploy abroad.

The agencies there are only selling you to the highest bidder.
You would be better off going to another country and getting viable experience as an RN first, since it is so hard to get into one of the better facilities where you are.

The volunteer and training programs do not count in most other countries as work experience.

Funny thing is that you usually see a bigger variety of patients as the smaller community hospitals rather than the larger ones that are more of a specialty type hospital.

There is also no real reason to even use one of there, they cannot get things done any faster for you.

If I was hiring and when I was, I always preferred the nurses that had to do everything and had no back-up, they learned very quickly how to handle an emergency and think on their feet as we say in the US. They had the best chances of coping as well as the best chance to succeed.

There is a chance however with the wait due to retrogression better to gain experience. Plus we are seeing less and less employers willing to petition due to the long wait and having experience especially in an area of high demand will increase your chances of a job/employer willing to petition you

thanks to all..i was just bothered when i heard that most agencies here specifically prefer those who are from "tertiary hospitals"..That left me thinking if that's what really employers from abroad are specifically looking for..Coz if that's the case, then my (our)options would really start to narrow..

So to put an answer to this: it doesn't matter if your work experience is from a tertiary, secondary or primary-just as long as it is a paid work experience then it will count to the employers(i don't care about what counts for these agencies). is that correct?
